I’m sorta guessing this would be a requirement, Theo. Putting in a broken Area isn’t the idea!! 8-)

This is still under review.

It is a very large change for our server and we are trying to make sure all the pieces fit into the puzzle appropriately.

Alright. Yes, it is a big change, and probably not everyone is going to like it.

Hello again!

Checking in to see if any progress has been made, or, an "executive decision."

Obviously, I read Miasmata’s earlier response.

That was over 2 months ago.

I’m happy to read it’s still under review ad infinitum, but unless there are some decision-by-dates offered, or at least some public updates on a thing that lingers, I’m going to bump it.

Especially with something as great as what tfunke here gifted to the Server.

I hope you don’t take this situation personally, now that you’re Lead Builder—this project landed far before that. A few of us players got invested in this BG rebuild because of how much we wish to see BG develop AND remain the focal point to the Server! Namesake, you know?

If it’s not high priority for you Leads and Admins, I’m cool with that. So...I’ll only bug you every 3 months then. 0:)

1000% agree!

Always good to get a Staff Viewpoint Update, especially when there is a very particular focus.

In the past, Big Mac utilized the State of the Server thread (as example).

Not that I think anyone isn’t mad invested in improvements, lately and currently. So thank you!

I do appreciate you bring it up Steve. I log on every other month or so to see if it's been implemented and nothing.
To be fair Lazytrain, the combined new version that I did vs the current version we use in terms of size, was only about 12 mb if I remember correctly? I get what you are saying, but I believe it's not as big of an issue as you make it out to be. You've already removed several areas since I did the new version, which combined add up more than 12 mb.
It's just how big a priority you choose to make it, at the end of the day. I spent 100+ hours on it, in the space of 4 weeks... so it's all relative.

Hello tfunke!

Keep hope alive...right?!?

But since your not getting in game and only dropping by once a month, I’ll assume here you aren’t aware of the very annoying and random Server crashes that were occurring, which as Staff informed us, was related to a too-big-for-it’s-britches Server.

And to his credit, LT made some big efforts and hard choices to slim fast this Big Boy to the best of his ability.

So, currently, Server Size is the Big Issue.

But, hoping for the best, and something else you may not have picked up on, but Dagesh the Bold and Zanniej the @&$*^%# ( 0:) ) have been working night and day...NIGHT AND DAY I TELL YOU, to split the Server into 2 parts, and if this succeeds, Lord on High Baby Crazy Jesus please!!!, there will be near infinite space to expand.

Which means your own BG Baby will come online...hopefully. Cause still, the Admins didn’t really state they wanted to implement your new BG layout.

That is something I, for one, think you should talk to them directly about!!!

Can I ask if guildhalls and such were included in the new BG? As the leader of a guild with a fairly new guildhall myself, I just want to make sure the remodeled city doesn't cause our hard-earned estate to dematerialize.

* f'n bump Bump BUMP!*

EDIT: I mean, at this point, it really should just be a final yes or no. And either way…closure is also valuable!

Hehe I hear you Steve 😊

Having built about a quarter of the areas in game, including the current BG, you’d think me vouching that the newer BG is a superior version should be enough.
I did complete this 2 years ago now and have actually just reunited with my old computer this week, after 2 years in storage. Sadly it’s dead now but I recovered the hard drive.

In the interest of transparency, I think the final copies I uploaded 2+ years ago to the server dev team, became either lost or mixed up with an older less polished version. I’ll touch base with the staff now and see if we can find out who has the “latest” version. Hopefully get the ball rolling.

I actually haven’t played on the server in 3+ years but I’d still love to see this product see the light of day and be appreciated by many and disliked by a few 😂

I also still have a functional module, the last one that you posted, and I was running around in to check out and find wonk/take screenshots... if that helps.

** - it appears I still have a version with the revamped farmlands as well.

Hello tfunke ol' boy! Nice to see you still coming around now and then.

To be fair, I've had some private conversations with Staff about your BG Remake, and the simple truth is that it would still require quite a bit of upgrading to puzzle in existing things that weren't possible or weren't added in your last iteration of the remake. Off hand, it's about 50 hours of work (that was a quick estimate).

Not impossible, but for some, a massive amount of time, with a limited, skilled volunteer Staff. I'm sure you know first hand, just what it takes to make such beautiful Areas AND to get them to "work" right.

So...if you're able to get in contact with the Devs, please do, and see what can be done. I still believe that this remake of BG would be a huge boon for RP for the Server!!!

Cheers.
