Monstrous Humanoids

Unread post by sir_blacksoutalot »

Can someone please confirm which creatures on the server are classified as Monstrous Humanoids? I took it as one of my ranger's Favored Enemies, but I'm not clear on which all creatures this applies to.

Wow, so that's it? Only Hagspawn and Yuan-ti count as monstrous humanoids on the BG server? I expected it to be more. Guess I should have picked humanoids in order to loop in gnolls.

It’s relative, depending on your Master Plan to level your toon. Rangers should do fantastic against Yuan-Ti, considering it’s outdoors for HiPS use and by the time the toon is X level appropriate for them, the Favored Enemies stacked bonus should be very useful.

If your eyes don’t bleed you to death, you could probably grind out 2-3 levels from the Yuan-Ti. And, I know it’s quite possible to grind out 2-3 levels using the Hag Cave. So, you’re trading 1 Favored pick for an average of 5 Levels to quickly grind out.

Worth it? Depends on what you’re going for.

I usually spend a good chunk of my epic levels in Reaching Woods. I guess I'll change it up a bit with this char and start hitting Serpent Hills.

I think reaching gnolls might be monstrous humanoids, my ranger has that FE type and he definitely smacks them around. :think: He also has FE giants and outsiders, cant see gnolls being one of those... ? Admittedly I'm a bit lost on which monsters are what, as I took FE monstrous humanoids to fight northern trolls, only to find out they are also under the giant category >.<

Like NWN2, the server follows 3.5, correct? Then Monstrous Humanoids should also include Minotaurs and Vampires.

Did some testing in Reaching, gnolls there are most likely monstrous humanoid, as my bane of enemies attack bonus was applying, as well as a huge damage boost from exacting strike.

Vampires = monstrous humanoids?! :o

Then us vampire hunters need to rebuild our characters...

Btw Snarfy, if you want to de-level by one and change FE there is a bat for XP drain in the Nexus now :D (I never noticed that before so I guess it's new?)

In 3.5 vampires are Undead, and I believe they are properly such on this server. From the SRD in your own link:
“Vampire” is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature). [...] The creature’s type changes to undead (augmented humanoid or monstrous humanoid).

Can someone form the dev team please give an official response on this issue? Sure would be great for players to understand which creatures are included in each of the Favored Enemy categories specific to the BG server?

If it is in PnP it should be on the server. If not report it. There's Sahuagin and Minotaur as well.

I am currently documenting creatures around the server and fixing error's regarding favored enemy, clerical turn undead, and other items and abilities that would be effected by creature racial type. Ariella was gracious enough to help me fix the race types on the serpent hills so far, and I will continue to search and find creatures around the world that are not set to the correct type if there are more. If anyone knows without a doubt of a creature that does not have the correct race type, please do post that creature here with its location, i'll investigate it and we will work to make sure it is correctly altered to reflect its creature type.

Name= Yuan-ti pureblood Zealot Race= monstrous
Name= Yuan-ti pureblood blade Race= monstrous
Name= Yuan-ti pureblood incanter Race= monstrous
Name= Yuan-ti pureblood Race= monstrous
Name= yuan-ti holy guardian Race= monstrous
Name= five headed hydra Race= reptillian
Name= Yuan-ti abomination hunter Race= monstrous
Name= Yuan-ti abomination warrior Race= monstrous
Name= Pureblood assassin Race= monstrous
Name= yuan-ti abomination Theurge Race= monstrous
Name= yuan-ti guardian Race= monstrous
Name= Yuan-ti Queen Race= monstrous
Name= yuan-ti pureblood Celebrant Race= monstrous

Here is a listing of the serpent hills/dungeon that have been fixed thus far, and I will continue to report fixes as they are found.

Thanks a lot!

I know that the Incorporeal undead in Fields of the Dead aren't properly classed as Undead, but I seem to remember a DM replying that there's a special reason why Incorporeals are in a category of their own :think:
