Don't feel too bad. It was an ambitious project. I've been both a DM in both PnP and NWN and I understand all the work that goes into it as well as the need for a consistent time to run such an adventure. Hopefully things will work out that it will still happen. It's better to wait to start it and do it consistently than to start it, stop for a month, and try to pick up where you left off.

Hopefully your schedule will work out that this adventure can happen.

Maybe one of the other DMs feel up to it?

It's a great idea, and I had a similar one around the same time, though I neither published it nor enacted it. My idea was to take a party of 5-to-8 level 1 characters on a journey to the Sword Coast, utilizing DM area maps.

By the end of the journey, they'd all be arriving in Baldur's Gate for the first time, at around level 10, with ready-made allies and friends and a somewhat developed and partially-shared backstory.

In the end, though, running something like this, even for a handful of players, is a scheduling nightmare. (It also has the potential to be very time-consuming).

I really hope so; I think I speak for all of us to say I would do my utmost to fit in with the needs of the group as a whole. If maybe the load could be split between DMs? Maybe even some former DMs might be persuaded to take an interest. Possibly, having happened once (successfully) this could become an experience, a bit like a guided "module" that could happen more than once. I'm sure players from the first would be happy to act as assistants in the next run, and so on...

TBH I think this is exactly what I've always wanted from a PW - something that's as like PnP experience as it can be. I'm certain I'm not alone there...

Good point it could be like a roller coaster. Its always the same but new for every new person and thus reusable. Not to mention multiple people could run off someone elses notes. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a forum/chat/irc/voice portion to expedite it either (or just have everyone in a ts or vent to speed up dialogues).

This idea is exciting! Only wish it wasnt so time consuming. Although levels 1-10 could probably be accomplished in 5+ sessions with rp rewards and encounters. Much faster than regular dnd.

Would be fun too, to have player run modules like this.

That sounds fantastic, though!

It's just not the same as having your buddies get together for a round on PnP. Scheduling is just so hard. I've an IG plot going for 3 weeks now that has barely started due to timing conflicts. It's rough as anyone in an active guild can tell you.

Yeah, because when you're in the middle of PnP nobody says "Crap, gotta go, wife is pulling me away from the computer. Sorry."

The other problem with this idea is that there is no guarantee that the players will keep. People reroll low lvls all the time. Players usually make the decision that they will keep a character after weeks if not months of RP. Even event attention - and I've given a fair bit to lowbies/newbies - doesn't seem to be enough to strongly influence the "play or reroll" decision.

Hmm, maybe, but I think most of the would be players are pretty experienced and know what they like. Like I'm always happy with a high Dex Hin.

Same here. A great idea, anyway. If someone ever try to do the same, I'm in.

@Task

Hmm...these things has never happened to your PnP group?
Girlfriend calls, the player everything revolves around for the moment realize he has more pressing needs than rolling dices.
Work calls, and someone has to leave immediately.
Mom calls, bedtime dudes.
Because of teenage hormones the PnP session turns into a night on the town instead, or a drinking spree anyway.
DM decides to get sick and sticks to it regardless of your combined diplomacy and intimidation skill rolls, healing didnt help either.

This is why I have a big blanket that I put over myself and the computer when I'm online. She can never find me.
