I can answer that one only if you know why we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway.

Ok cool - thanks!

Well I've done some research and the opinions are mixed as to why no show. One forum I read thinks that maybe the fantasy level for a FR show would be too high with respect to graphics and cost to produce

http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion ... ion-series

Another forum speculated that WOTC ran out of cash and the license expired

http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread ... -tv-series

I09 also has some iside scoop on what is coming for the FR but the latest info I have is August 2012

http://io9.com/5938988/whats-coming-nex ... ten-realms

Candlekeep forums topic died out about 2006 when WOTC last updated them....

http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6388

I think the subject is pretty much dead unless a major Hollywood studio wanted to pick it up. DnD is well known enough to garner a movie, IMHO I don't think FR is (if it remains true to itself) and a lot of us would be disappointed with a watered down version. I dont have good enough "inside" connections to get better answers :) I'd advise all y'all that if you are at your local GenCon and see some WOTC folk that you ask them directly.

You should write the manuscript! I think it is a cool idea too!

Who is your favorite anti-hero, and do you have any advice for making one?

Well, I have lots.

Jay Gatsby from, "The Great Gatrsby" is one that I relate to... on a lot of levels (ya, I am holding a torch for someone ATM...)

Dexter Morgan is another one, although I cant relate to him in ANYWAY! lol! I like Michael C Hall and think he is a great actor.

Roy O'Bannon from Shanghai Noon and Knights...

John MacLane from the Die Hard movies.

of course, the pinnacle... Han Solo (mostly because Greedo shot first....)

OK part 2.... making an anti-hero character.

This shouldnt be mixed up with an anti-paly or similar...

An anti-hero is someone who tries hard but fails or messes up a a lot. Sometimes they are martyrs, sometimes they are misunderstood, sometimes their true motives arent known until the very end (Severus Snape for example) so to make one you have several choices:

1. Make a goof-ball. The wizard that stutters, the barbarian that is compulsively honest and says what is ever on her mind, the druid whose animal companion doesnt like him and bites him or pees on him, etc.

2. Make a charracter who thinks they are a leader but they really arent. The Bard who leads the charge into fights (instead of the fighters), the human amongst the elves, the wizard who tells the cleric how to cast their spells (I am thinking of Buzz Lightyear in the first Toy Story movie)

3. Make a character that does a lot of emoting but not a lot of talking. Could be the strong silent type, could be the toon with the shady history, could be the toon with a bad attitude but who is always going above and beyond to help friends, etc. This type of character will need a solid bio and background I'd say as to why they are quiet(er). Personally, I love this type of anti-hero because you never know what the frak they are going to do next, and there may be a wicked plot twist somewhere in there. Makes me think of Jason Bourne, or Nicholas Brody from Homeland. *looks sideways at Arkanis and reacts automatically without thinking*

4. A character who is a martyr/hard done by/whiner. Fun to RP but not so much for friends or party members "the broken record." James "Sawyer" Ford from Lost; hard done by, steps up to the plate when called upon but resents it. Loyalty has to be earned, but only to a point... probably NE for AL and occupation listed as "shady." Con artist to the Nth degree.

Yeah baby ! Badass Frank castle FTW !!! my ultimate all time favorite !

growing up my father had some comic books from when he was a teenager, and it was like spider man and x-men cross overs with the punisher, and like ghost rider and stuff..

used to search for his comic specifically but couldn't find them until I was a teenager myself haha

but yeah, the Punisher is definetly an Anti-Hero. So is spawn then too I guess.... pretty much same guy different generations.... imo

Late to the show, but great thread Arkanis. I have questions for you oh great philosophizer extraordinaire

In video games, books, movies and history, the story of how good men and women become evil is told and retold. However, it is very rare that an evil person ever becomes good. Is this evidence that people are born inherently good or does society teach people to be good until something breaks? Which is more worthy of remembrance, a story of falling from grace or a tale of redemption? :ugeek:
