You can ask DM to grant you language if it doesn't show up in language selector. You need to have free language slot, though. Wild elves do not automatically know sylvan.Shotgunbunny wrote:Is there a way for a wild elf ranger to learn the sylvan language? I was led to believe, on an old nwn1 server, that wild elves get sylvan as a racial language, or that it's quite common to them, at least.

If it is non-intelligible, it is not just a dialect, it's a distinct language.Zkenic wrote:Technically all common speach in the UD is "undercommon." A PC with the undercommon is being redundent, unless they use it as an rp reason to have common when dealing with surfacers. Drow is a dialect of elvish that surface elves do not understand, due to slang, accent, and mixing with undercommon, though drow speak elven, so they can communicate with their surface kin if they want to.

Isn't it amazing how a fighter can learn to better figure out what enchantments are on an item by merely gaining some skill but not even the greatest of scholars can learn the merest smattering of a language without undergoing a fundamental and significant improvement in basic cognitive ability?

Recently came upon this useful repository of Forgotten Realms languages, with regions spoken.

Re: Languages - Info ( lore and server )
There's a section about it in the Player's Handbook from 2nd edition.
This hidden language consists more of slangs and innuendos than an actual language. The main use of thieves' cant was to communicate rogue activities, such as banditry, burglary, finding marks, and discussing loot.
(I couldn't remember the phrasing in my head, so this was pulled from the Forgotten Realms Wikia, but I checked that it was quoted from a sourcebook before 4th edition)
I hope that helps to answer your question

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thieves'_cant
also, in this module, the thieves speak actual cant from what I remember

(The Crimmor module is probably the best depiction of a living, breathing city in nwn2 in terms of atmosphere)

They do. They've got 3. Celestial, Infernal, and Abyssal. Those are the languages of "divine" creatures.

And? How does that negate it being the language of Divinity?

Re: Languages - Info ( lore and server )
Celestial is the language of the Angels, Archons, and other Good Outsiders, who are the servants of gods!
Infernal is a corrupted form of Celestial spoken by Devils and other lawful evil outsiders, which are servants of gods!
Abyssal is the language of Demons, Daemons, and other evil outsiders, which are servants of gods!
Thus, if you are a servant of a god, such as a Cleric, Paladin, Blackguard, etc etc. You can use one of those 3 languages to speak your prayers.
