Return to Reaching. He returns back along the river before Admorin makes another circle of the forest, checking for change.

He sets up camp and does his best to cover ( ;) ) for the rangers who have moved off to patrol.

Broken bottles here. Burn marks over there. That was what he found around the stone circles to the east of Candlekeep.

Had there been an explosion? Conjured or concocted? He'd be hard-pressed to discern. Upon learning of an attack on his fellow ranger, and seeing how it had left her maimed, he decided to retrace the events.

So there he was, following a blood trail leading to a dried pool towards the road.
"She must have lain here...", he muttered. Three tracks. The one leading was gaining distance, but abruptly disappeared. He knew her to have been found miles to the north. Could this have been her doing? The other two tracks should be her pursuer's. One he already knew to be drow. The other appeared the biggest of all three. That one he thought over for quite some time.

In the late afternoon they arrived at the still broken shrine of Chauntea. After they watched the surrounding area for the some time, the male ranger and the druidess sit down to commune with the land, while the female ranger guarded them.

In the bright moonlight of the night they called out for local animals to commune with them as well.

The elven ranger makes her way northward, crossing the Thundars ride following the road eastward. Up the slopes to the ruins in observation, she moves on to see if anything else might be about. She settles for a highpoint and wait for the others.

Trust in Selune’s radiance, and know that all love alive under her light shall know her blessing. Turn to the moon, and she will be your true guide. Promote acceptance and tolerance. See all other beings as equals. Aid fellow Selunites as if they were your dearest friends."

For the last year it had become commonplace to see Captain Desrah of Ulgoth's
out at the shrine, tending the Oak or the flowers she'd planted in memorial,
picking weeds, or simply sitting quietly, saying a prayer or pouring her soul out
to one she thought had passed over. Those who grew accustom to the site might
begin to notice her absence. In her stead, they would see hired hands. Beggars,
prostitutes, even a bandit bribed not to engage in banditry, all coming to tend the
grounds, pluck the weeds, and see to it's upkeep. They would see all kinds, all, that
is, accept the Captain. . .

Lying before the statues at the Shrine to Meiliki is left faded parchment, rolled and bound in twine. No other decorations or embellishment is left within - only the following, written first in Common, then in Elven:

Expressing a desire to make contact. I will endeavor to return to this very spot every fourth day beginning from the end of the Midsummer's Eve.
Sam
Druid

A ranger reads note, puts it into his pocket, then he kneels down to speak a silent prayer to Mielikki. He stands up and cares for the plants around the shrine before leaving a short note for the druid.

"Hello Druid Sam,

you already made contact by leaving you parchment here. I hope we will meet very soon at the shrine to speak about the forest.

Mielikki bless you

Ven"

All is quiet tonight. The same old trees, same old trail through the Cloakwoods. With nary a sound, save from the shifting duff beneath his steps. All is quiet tonight... There is Selune, shining through the thick canopy. He had come to appreciate Her presence a bit more as of late. Her light provides a glimpse through the darkness that shrouds the woods, and what may lurk in the vicinity. A short silhouette here, a shifting patch of vegetation there. He knew the forest was alive around him. And yet all was quiet tonight.....aside from the whispers.

Those damned whispers! Try as he might, he could not find where it came from. And now a shiver, one that stops him in his tracks. He is not far from the edge of the woods now. But something catches his glimpse in the distance. A glimmer. And with the glimmer, the whispers grew louder. He'd decided on ignoring the voices...and the box. A box? The golden box that lay before him in the rubble, with black trim and several runes. He looked back to the spot in the distance where he'd been standing, wondering when he'd started approaching the source of the glimmer. He must have wanted to see what's inside...the echoing voices made sure to remind him of that. He can't seem to decide what to do, even though he found the box overwhelmingly tempting...and so fine to the touch. The touch? He finds his hands holding the thing up, feeling it with his fingers as its lid slowly opened. His thoughts of the when and the how was cut short as something suddenly reaches out of the box to pull him in. And all was completely quiet....

He gasps for breath as he wakes up. Heart stammering and drenched in sweat, he props himself up on one elbow to take stock of his surroundings. Finding himself on a bed in the cabin, he wipes the sweat off his brow as he moves to sit on the edge of the bed. With hands over his head and elbows up on knees, he decides there will be no more sleep tonight.

In various inns around the Swordcoast leaves can be seen with the following text written on it:
"Hello
rangers and
followers of nature,

if you are new to the area or you are looking for like-minded
people in this region,
I will offer you
my help.

Leave a note for "Vendor Xon" at the Friendly Arm Inn or at one of the shrines along the tradeway.

Vendor Xon, Ranger of Mielikki."
