I'm not sure if this is meant as an insult but this is freaking insulting.

If it takes too long to from level 4 on you are not pushing an area that is for leveling your PC. This is a fact. The monsters are not as hard as people are thinking and if you have a group with at least one pure fighter type you are going to mop up monsters at level 4 from The Graveyard to Candlekeep Trolls. If you are killing Trolls at level 4 which can be done since they rarely spawn in more than 1 in that dungeon on you, you are getting nearly max XP for each kill even in a group. People are so scarred of that XP penalty they do not push harder dungeons and do not even realize they could do better.
You need to get 14,000 XP to go from 14th level to 15th. At 30 XP per kill, that's 467 things you have to kill. That's probably more OOC than anything else here.

On being 'so scared of that XP penalty'... do you know how many times my main has died despite being fully buffed, with quickened invisibility and a full party of heavily armored melee characters? Somewhere around 37. 37 times. Now, then you have people who weren't 18th level at the time, people who were like 5th level. Take away the party and take away quickened spells. They're completely right to be terrified of literally everything.
Calodan wrote:What players need and want is to spend their game time doing what they want to level. NO MATTER WHAT SPEED IT IS! So for the love of the gods, God and or Universe please put the quest XP into a pool that depletes as we tick of XP instead!
That... doesn't fix the problem. I don't want to be killing monsters for hours; I want to actually be talking to people and doing things IC, but if I do that, I'll never progress at all, and my uselessness in DM events will continue.
aaron22 wrote:i dont know what you are doing in game to receive such treatment. i suppose if my level 9 ranger walked around and acted like he could track a gnat in a rain forest, and there were epic rangers i was bragging to. i would receive a good ribbing when i couldnt hack the survival skill roll for to track the giant in a muddy field.
No one else here has seen this sort of thing? Weird. Let's change that scenario to be more like what happens on the server, though...

At level 14 or 15 you should be able to handle areas that are giving more like 50 XP / kill... With a party that might go down in to the low 40's... If even in a lower CR area you are dying that often with a full party and fully buffed I think that perhaps you might be doing something wrong. Might be your build or your play, but that seems really really unlikely to be with a group in an area that is only giving 30 XP / kill and still not be survivable.

Now if you had said the issue was being in a group at level 24 getting 20 XP / kill and still dying I would say it's far more likely to be the case...

Well, the idea of a bank of XP is that when you are talking to people your bank is emptying by giving you double RP XP awards, so in fact it WOULD address your problem by giving you MORE XP while talking to people then you would get today.

With regard to progression and usefulness in DM events, I don't get that... I have been in DM events with characters as low as level 5 or 6 and never felt useless in the event. Perhaps you have to think about how to use skills in such events or speak OOC'ly with some DMs you have been in events with to ask how you can improve your role play in such situations. I have never known a DM to ignore the skill usage of a low level character so this just doesn't seem like an accurate statement.

I also have never experienced this and think it borders on rule breaking based on how you describe it. In my opinion there seems to be a fairly recent trend of starting more new characters so there should be plenty of low to mid level PC's / parties roaming about. If you feel like other players are god modding your level you can always hide it in the scry and if they are OOC'ly giving you a hard time about skill rolls you should maybe tell them that skill rolls can only be enforced by a DM.

why do you feel like you are useless in events. there must be things that even as a non epic you do better than most others on the server. you are a wizzy so memorize some spells that the epic wizzy's are not so that if an opportunity to use the more RP based spell is needed you are johnny on the spot. as a non epic you will not be elministering all the mobs with your deadly magical might, but not doing that does not make you useless. be creative and try to think outside the box. the hero of THAT moment. that is memorable. memorable is better than powerful.

also you are a wizzy, so if you hang with wizzy's they are all A-holes anyway

I suppose one problem in events may actually be, that it can get not so enjoyable with a party of let us say 10+ people...

Still think the xp bank would be a great improvement. The quests are not really enjoyable after several runs. I know, you do not have to play them and I mostly stopped to.

If I have not written here already, my vote went to more xp in the epics. The leveling in the non-epics is quite fast and fast enough in my opinion.

For me, I enjoy most a good balance of rp, with grinding, group play and DM events. What makes this server truly amazing is that most of the time I am not forced to do one or the other because of lack of availability. Of course in the UD, I am often times forced into grinding/looting.and while it's sometimes very hard to find a group to adventure with or rp with. Those that I do catch are fantastic about inclusion and seem very accepting to new players to their little spot in the server.

All of this. Epic leveling sucks. Events with more than 10 people are awful, DM run or not, they just devolve into a giant mess of people all trying to be the main character of the story all at the same time. That or the server crashes 5 times in a row. Or all of the above.

Also the quests are even worse than just grinding. I can't stand doing any of them other than the Maltz one because it's -right there-.

Alright, if I risk dying I could get 20 experience a kill or maybe 70 from a boss. It is bit of a struggle, takes time, and would actually require UMD consumables. (And I guess some of you know how I feel about those... ) Or, I could just stick to an area where I get 8-12 experience a kill with little to no risk, and can often kill 3-5 mobs in the time it takes to find one of those 20 experience mobs.

Recently I dropped doing the Orc Chieftain and the Ore Sample one. I just did it to reduce the number of area transitions. But yeah, Epic leveling is mostly just running those quests once per week.

If one is willing to do it though at this point the surface quests can net from my experience 10k+ XP. I am an XP Hoar and since my soul is lost to the sands of questing already it is worth it. Once you are past Level 25 that is a full third of a level in about a third of the time it takes to grind it out.

To be clear this is the Epic Available quests for levels 20+ on the surface. I have not found or done any of the new quests in Orc Home, Soubar or Durlag's Tower. I have done the Rockrun quests which net 2500 XP for 3 quests and can be done in less than 30 minutes time for that. So add in that quest run with epic quests you get approx. 10k XP.

Would be nice if someone would at least make a full quest list for BG and who gives it. Nothing else. Let people learn the quest once they find it but there are a ton of them and there really should be a guide as to what and where to start for them.......

I have not played here long but leveling is reallllllly draining! It almost made me quit a few days ago when I died and lost 800 exp!

I don't know what the best option is but I think something has to be done! I feel sorry for mage classes with d4 hit points at level 1...

As much as I always disliked deaths somewhat, I think the early levels are decently fast-paced.
