thats because it does sound off when you mix it with common and only have partial phases

usstan tlun would be "i am"

and dos phuul is "you are"

if you really want to go that in depth with it tho just copy the words to your journals note section (the journal you bring up with J, its the last tab) and you can refer back to it in game instead of having to look on the forums all the time ;)

and as far as i know there is no character limit to the notes section

For instance, should I treat "Usstan" exactly as "I" when forming a sentence?

"Usstan am" sounds so incredibly wrong...

Same goes for "dos are" and all that. It just bothers me so much ! >_<

i didnt knew a word when i started playing , english is also a 2nd language to me so so i get what you mean , i can only say; it passes. Most use those words only as a flavor , replacing Xas , dos or virth here and there , try to look at the context when you dont understand , if it doesnt work ask ... i asked a lot , still do , for words and lore i dont understand or simply dont know anything about.

it helps also to have a char who has reasons for not knowing , could be illiterate or plain stupid or could be sick like alzheimer
'' ooh whats that word again ? my memory fails me yet again * says the old duregar scratching his beard* ''
'' what dos mean exactly ? ''
'' whatever dos say *nods* ''

anyway i haven't seen anywhere that speaking with drowish words is mendatory , its not even recomanded specifically and as far as i noticed you dont get bonus RP XP out of it , so this is purely player driven for flavour to the setting , you dont have to use them , even more so for non drow , my dureguar buddy only says '' vendui '' and its no trouble to him.

I learned the hard way that it sometimes clears on update... =(

Better use a notebook.

I use occasional Drow words here and there (mostly terms such as jalil, jaluk, jabress, etc... as well as acknowledgements like vendui and aluve). Still, there is no true Drow language and even if there were, I for one have little interest in learning it, and so for conversations as well as to convey anything beyond the casual I will always use English.

Generally speaking however, it is not terribly difficult to piece together what most players are trying to say, even if some sentences come out looking like an unwieldy mishmash.

this is actually a false erase that it some times does on updates

it will be clear for a while (maybe) but its never actually deleted and comes back

only if you delete that character will you actually loose it

either way yea after updates it can go away and be annoying :(

Yes it would, I suggested it when the post first got put up but it never was. I'll probably post it in the 7th Circle private forums as well. That also means that you Lolthites can do that as well if you'd like, adding whatever words you wish.

Drow Dictionary That link provides a lot of Drow words and their translations. It's very helpful.

This is translator from common to drow and other way around. There is also dictionary and grammar. It maybe perhaps one of the best resources.

nwnolan, that link is just a piece of the entire site that Rainbow already posted. That website, with its translator and grammar sections, is by far the most in depth and complete guide to the Drow language. I highly suggest its use. I even have it open while I play the game on my right screen in case I want to say a specific phrase in Drow or I forget a word. I wish the DMFI translator used THAT. I agree, it is just too clumsy. I tried using it again after the update. I am still not satisfied.

As for Darthirii being able to understand an Ilythiiri, I like to use real life examples. I have spoken with English speakers from all over the world, Australia, New Zealand, British, Scotish, and Irish. Also in the states I have spoken to people in many states, in their native states. I can say that just due to the accents alone I can barely understand an Irish person, Scotish isn't too bad, Welsh is really rough, British is ok if you can keep up, and Australians and New Zealanders are on their way to developing their own language (they slur and mumble most every word. They have the worst enunciation of all English speakers, Kiwis worse that Ausis). As for people in my own country, I have issues understanding people from the northeast in that they replace all r's with a's and a's with r's. It drives me nuts. The more rural you go, the worse it gets.

Referencing that, I can completely see an elf not understanding a word a Drow speaks, especially if they have purposely adjusted the language, even if subtly, to throw off the elves.
