While working on a plan for a gala in the Public Areana of the Northern Farmlands, James was mugged not 100 feet from a Fist guard. The male elf with sandy blond hair and a white skull mask wore red leathers and was exceptionally good at being stealthy. He weilded two short blades, possibly short swords or scimitars and left James for dead in a puddle of his own blood. If not for the fast thinking of the Fist, he would surely be dead. Unfortunately 2,000 gold, all James had on him, was stolen. The man said he was part of the crimson Blade, a group of highly professional bandits.
Many try to later find the assailant to no luck - his tracks are too well masked by the other movements on the popular road. James alerts everyone he can and learns that Mila and some companions also encountered this group and thwarted them. She said they mentioned 'taking care' of James. This may mean the Crimson Blade means to target the upcoming convoys and if so, there is more than just a few desperate brigands to contend with.

James has a relatively peaceful day in the wake of the assault. Little new information is forthcoming on the Crimson Blade but several generous donations help boost the Relief Funds. James is more cautious about depositing the money at the Balder's Gate bank under escort. Often times his pockets get picked despite this, but James always counts this out of his personal spending money rather than the Funds. After all, it's his inability to catch the pick pockets that is to blame.
James has recieved the itenerary for the first two convoys and will be organizing with Pate for the call to action for all volunteers.

James speaks with Kald and Tristan about the upcoming convoy. It is suggested it might be a good idea to ward the entire convoy with powerful magics to make it impervious to attack. Kald will speak with Wendel about this potential.
Thergal has announced that druidic rituals can do very little and the farms are doomed. James refuses to accept this and has taken the farmland recovery project back to be put under someone's care who will take action. James is seeking knowledgable people who would like to take over this initiative.
There is rumor the lizardmen may have damed the Cloakwood creek to keep more of the water up there. This will need looking into. I nthe meantime James needs someone willing to get a list of drought resistant seends to buy, get irrigation ditches and reservoir ponds dug and coordinate the farmers in the plowing and protection of their fields. Anyone willing to take local farmers much needed food in the meantime is appreciated.

A mob formed claiming James has stolen all teh money meant to be donated to them. It was dispersed by the Fist. When James came to the Fist with his ledgers, the Fist simply dismissed him. They refused to give him any names of local community leaders of the farming areas to help calm down and explain what the money was going to. The Fist suggested holding a community forum, but that is asking for a lynch mob and James refuses.
Instead James signs on Alaura Beaumont and her brother Mister Beaumont (Edwin Beaumont, called Mr. Beaumont) to begin surveying the land, talking with farmers and learning what should be focused on first as well as calming down the farmers. James is having a map of the lands scribed by Cnadlekeep tonight and it will be delivered to Alaura tomorrow (DM permitting) for her to begin her effort.
James is escorted the remaining evening by Dejaveriah, the Beaumonts, Cael, Pate and several others. He is threatened by Virr who believe the rumors that James is using the funds for his own gain. Several bandits try to ambush James and his entourage throughout the day.

Mealir reveals his ship is due to Waterdeep soon. He has agreed to spread word of the deep interest in sea-trade with Balder's Gate again. James has offered coin to charter vessels at waterdeep if they are too concerned about the risk. Mealir mentions that the Duke has chartered his ship to bring back iron ore for industry. It might be a good time to speak with Delphinn of the NTE.
Thergal reveals he has been spreading the word of the farmland needs with clerics and druids of Chauntea. Members of the faith interested in helping the farmlands will seek James out.
Pate suggests a side project to recover a broken wagon in the Field of the Dead and restore it for use with the convoys to bring more supplies in. James has approved spending coin for supplies and craftsmen for this project.

Update
Relief Funds to Date: 1,351,914 gold
(Note for me: 109,500 gold is currently held by Meri/DM Lyrewyn)
(Further note for DMs: 100,000 gold is now in a separate account with which Pate has full access and permission to use as he sees fit.)
Tristan and James discuss further ways to defend the convoys. Some creative uses of magic and mentioned (and would need DM approval). James is given the newly copied maps of the farmlands to begin preparing his plan of attack on the drought hit farmers.
DMs: James is now putting out notices for workers to deepen reservoir ponds, drill deeper wells and begin digging irrigation ditches. He is looking for both craftsmen who know what they're doing and simple menial laborers. All positions paid with a catered lunch. James also is seeking the needed tools. Please let me know the estimated cost. I will be happy hand over the gold to make this start happening as background. James' hope is that the farmers who have been complaining will see the double duty of hiring on as laborers to fix their own drought problem - helps pay the taxes as well as get the fields producing again.

Dorna Runehammer donates 10,000 gold

Following his short discussion with James inside the Inn, Triston finished his wine and handed Nessie a generous pouch of gold lions. While exiting the Inn, he can be heard muttering something about Abjurations and Illusions under his breath, but never a complete sentence. Walking in his typical slow manner, using his staff every step of the way, he suddenly stops fifty paces from the gate and curses under his breath, "Someone at the City of Scholars might know, or perhaps one of those tomes." After a quick prayer to Deneir to guide him in his search, Triston picks up his staff and quickens his pace southward.

Edwin Beaumont and his beloved sister Alaura await further instructions from James White as well as a map to the locations they are to visit. Edwin and Alaura being the children of third generation farmers have offered their service to James and the city relief in whatever way possible. For the time being it would seem that is to visit door to door and talk with the farmers and get a feel for what has been working and what has not, as well as to involve their own thoughts upon the matters regarding this irregular crop yield.

Seeing he now has access to his own account for the City Relief Effort, Pate begins putting fliers he has made on bulletin boards in Baldur's Gate and other places along the coast and Trade Way:
Attention all skilled craftsmen and carpenters;
I am seeking three or four skilled laborers knowledgeable in crafting and repairing caravans and carriages. This is a very dangerous job requiring traveling into the Field of Dead and the compensation will be extremely generous due to the risky nature of the task. Must be able to quickly and competently repair a broken carriage where it currently lies, a preliminary trip to survey the damage can be arranged as necessary. Also Must be able to remain calm and perform in crisis scenarios.
Also needed;
Several men and/or women who are able to handle themselves in a fight. Previous experience fighting in Field of Dead is preferable. You are needed to guard a carriage while it is repaired to a condition fit to be moved. Compensation will be generous.
If you fit either description and are interested in helping The City Relief Effort while making some coin doing it, seek out Pate in Baldur's Gate or The Friendly Arms Inn
Signed,
Pate
Pate also begins posting another flier:
Looking to buy or commission the use of two strong, healthy horses. Must be trained to pull carriages and disciplined enough to remain calm in dangerous situations. Anyone interested seek out Pate in Baldur's Gate or The Friendly Arms Inn and we can discuss terms for a deal.
Signed,
Pate

A slight elf followed closely by a yellow cat approach the bulletin board. After reading Pate's flier, the elf pens a letter and gives it to the cat to deliver. It reads.
Greetings Pate,
I have observed your request for escorts for carpenters to the fields of the dead. I have some experience in the area and would be willing to assist in securing the craftsmen as they ply their trade. I can be reached at the Friendly Arms Inn.

Bug bears assaulted the FAI. They seemed to be led by hobgoblins and attacking caravans. The Oathkeeper and his Oathbrother, Andalor Blackmore, lead south east to find a huge gathering of hobgoblins and bugbears. - Only they seemed to be consuming anything, or anyone, they killed for food. They were just trying to survive. After some consideration, the camp was cleansed. It was then discovered it wasn't for survival, just for kicks as many of the corpses were left to rot by the lake behind the camp. a funeral pyre was overseen by James and the group went back to FAI.
James is taunted by two men who donate a broken halfcopper and throw dirty underwear at James and Pate. Though hostile words are exchanged and the men try to weave the events as assault on donors of clothing - no physical action is taken. James burns the soiled garments claiming they might be tainted with disease. After hostilities continue to rise, James packs up and he and Pate leave the scene.
Where James is confronted with a golden leapord that drops a mysterious note reading "You are in grave danger. Do not trust those that offer help. I will meet you if needed." To compound the frustration, there is no signature or mark.
Virr later arrives and throws clean women's underwear at James. Jame is having a bad day.
James has a meeting with Delphinn about the lumber operation. Edwin Beaumont wants to research agriculture in BG more.

(Note for me: 100,000 is in a separate account for Pate. 100,000 is in a separate account for Edwin Beaumont. This is by no means how much James intends to spend on these projects. It's just spending money in case James isn't available and the pair want to go forward on a project.)
The man who threw dirty undergarments at James introduces himself at Travis Morgan, Coin of Waukeen and claims yesterday's actions were as a disguise to learn how bad things were'. He donates gold this time and claims towant to join the caravan escort mission. James is hesitant to let him in, especially after the mysterious note last night.
Edwin Beaumont has been assigned the formal task of heading all farmland revival efforts. He has expressed an interest in becoming more involved like Pate and James is all too happy to give him the chance to take charge.
The first convoy was escorted successfully through the most treacherous bandit-infested areas. It's only casualty was a horse, which James has promised to pay for a replacement of when one presents itself at Waterdeep. Two wagons of the convoy will be filled with food and drought resistant seed on their return trip, bringing a little bit of relief to the city - the first step. Another convoy will need escorting soon.
