Re: A letter to the Alliance.......(Combat Training)
Holding the Fort
The Purpose:Often a strategic location is held by an enemy and must be taken to secure your war effort. Once taken the enemy will undoubtedly move to retake this position in force soon after.
The goal of this exercise is to teach the teams how to both take and hold a heavily fortified position.
Set up:
1.) A fortified position will be chosen.
2.) Team X who holds the fort will be given 5 mins to prepare it's defenses, 7 mins if they should have a player on that team whom might roll a spot of 50 or above, thus spotting the incoming enemy
3.) Team Y will then be given the signal may commence assault at their leisure.
4.) whichever team might hold the fort 10 mins after the siege has commenced will have won part A of the exercise.
5.) That team will not be allowed rest, but will be allowed 7 mins to heal it's wounded and resecure it's perimeters.
6.) At this point, team Z will be given the signal to attack immediately.
Whichever team wins two consecutive battles, i.e. defends twice, or captures and defends the fortification, will be deemed Defenders of the Keep. They will be awarded 25 thousand gold and the prestige of knowing it's combat capabilities are sufficient to handle proper combat.
The rules of engagement still apply, no use of wands or items but the use of healing kits alone will be permitted in this event.
Any questions?

// Hey Guys,
I hope everyone had fun. I have to say that everyone involved really proved the point, you don't have to have a DM to create fun and rewarding events.
Thanks to you all,

Mendel is a dwarf, or a fat elf. Yep, I feel bad for the orcs! They will turn their faces at the weird half-dwarf half-fat elf creature.//

Re: A letter to the Alliance.......(Combat Training)
// I had lots of fun! Thank you, to all who were involved.
I'm not a PvP-er and don't really like that but this was very different. I don't know how the lag was for everyone else, it was really bad for me once the combat started. I knew it would be, as I play on an old laptop and not the best of connections. But how was it for everyone else?
Some advice please?
I don't play Valge as the party buffer druid. Usually I have wards (for myself and animal companion), some offensive spells and healing (which I use on party members). That has worked for me.
So, what would I be looking at with buffs? It took me an hour to re-arrange my spellbook for this and it still wasn't right! I hope no one took offence but I find it difficult to swap out some spells on a whim, not sure if that's just me finding the spellbook a bit overwhelming.
Oh, and sorry for using party offensive spells the first round..
The combat rounds were very short, or at least it felt like they were. I really did feel like I learned a lot from this.
There better be a next time!
Things I thought of,
-Turning off combat logs
I remember that tip from the caravan event, it really does help with the lag. At the start, everyone should just turn them off. Just remember to use common as languages don't translate then.
-Putting others on hostile
How was this done? I think I hostiled only one because I couldn't figure out how to do it quickly. I would have had both teams lined up in front of each others and hostiled, then return to the camps but... obviously it worked out somehow I'm just wondering how?
-Attack sign?
Obviously this worked somehow too! I'm wondering if it could be clearer... at least I was unsure if we could go attack now or not, is the other team ready or not. Oh, I just loved how in the confusion (my confusion anyway!) I went off to the other team's camp... and... I couldn't see them? and there were some other people there instead.
I wasn't even sure where their flag was.
I half-expected to hear TIMBER! when Valge went down...
If you're arranging for more training, I'm going to Sweden the 6th September. Also a way of saying, I will be busy some time after that but I'm sure that soon enough I'll tire of family and friends (and they of me). I hope to participate on a better computer and connection then. I wonder what difference that would make... I also wonder what difference not drinking half a bottle of liquor makes too...

//I will be writing up a detailed report to be passed via PM to Sywyn of Doron, the Dwarves of Helzak and the Radiant Heart. Anyone, such as Nomster who wants a breakdown to their performance, or tips, please PM me.
Till then, here are some picks from the event.....

//What little bit I was able to be around for was fun and I hope some got some good instruction out of it. I apoligize to everyone for having to leave and also for the crash at the start of the defense. One thing that I can say for once this actually starts it begin to think outside the box. Use the environment to your advantage. Use the off skills if you have them such as trapping.

Re: A letter to the Alliance.......(Combat Training)
Addressing the Druidess Valge.
"Druidess, you are already highly capable in single combat but where you lack significant impact is in battalion movement and strategy. Firstly, your bandmates might be aided significantly with the help of your wards of protection and regeneration. This will allow them to continue on in a long protracted struggle. You might do away with some of your destruction based spells that swallow large swaths of area. One, perhaps two would suffice for the Orc close quickly on their prey and while you might blast them once before the battle is joined, your position in the center of the melee casting these spell might come to harm your kin, as well as Orc.
Secondly, battle formation. You would stand as the frontline, our wall to protect the elves greatest weapon, our archers. You would not be alone, for Faernsoura Dralzar would also stand at you side but most elves would be flanking off of your position and once the battle has commenced, your movement might open up a hole in our defensive wall, leaving both our archers and flankers vulnerable. Once we have engaged in martial combat, try to limit your movement unless absolutely necessary. Focus on your combat and steadying your cousins should they falter in the line.
I hope this might help aid you and may the gods keep you Druidess...."
Laisren finishes, moving off to consult with Villi Mendel.

Later that day, Ele is seen composing lengthy letter. Duplicates in Common and Elven are bound with silk string and wax seals.
Asking a nearby elf, "Do you know someone who can translate Dwarven?" She waits for a reply.

Re: A letter to the Alliance.......(Combat Training)
Following the latest training exercise, Laisren can be seen writing and drawing up diagrams beneath the moon's light. He looks up to the sky and then over to his partner, "Saline, would you look this over my love", he asks her with a nod. His heart is troubled, this should be a happy time, they should be preparing for their wedding before all of their friends but something ate at the back of his mind and he knew she could see it.
Saline gives him a reassuring smile and runs her hand along his cheek down to his chin, lifting it she says, "You are ever the serious one aren't you?". "When I get done reviewing this, I want to enjoy the rest of our evening", she says now with an equally determined look on her face, he smiles at this......

// thank you to all who came for the training
