It doesn't mean Rangers can have any deity, it means there are more gods that accept Rangers than gods who accept Druids. In the FR setting you only certain gods accept Rangers and Druids. I'm pretty certain the list of deities you can choose at character creation already reflect who accepts what. Hence, iirc, why the list is much shorter for Druids than for Rangers, and both of those are shorter than for clerics, and only non-divine-casters can choose [None].

Well that statement I wouldn't fully agree with.

Their is NO religious limitations for spirit shamans, but for some reason in NWN2 they just copied the exact restrictions as druids.

Actually there are rangers of Leira, which seems odd to me (I admit to playing one).

Some of the oddities in NWN2 do make sense (Solonor for example makes a very good Druid god with his dogma, protfolios and all that.)

If we go by NWN2's stupidity, lolth could perfectly become a ranger deity with her spiders  . (Since Leira is one thanks to mists.)

Probably because Spirit Shamans are like the "Druid-Sorcerer", like Favoured Souls are "Cleric-Sorcerers", so I suppose they wanted it that way for balance purposes or something. Or maybe, perhaps more likely, it was a consequence of them re-using the Druid spell list.

Regardless, that is beyond the point of Druid and Ranger-choosable deities already being implemented.

In NWN2, the Ranger Domain List = Druid Domain List = Spirit Shaman Domain List.

The reason for it, the people who made apparently just couldn't be bothered.

And all deities accept Rangers in Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Druidic deities are the most common, but there isn't a reason why we couldn't have a Ranger of Bane, Shar, Ilmater, Torm, Valkur, or Tempus.

Are you certain? Because I can't log in and check if it's either way, so I'll have to take your word for it. I could have sworn they have different deity lists, though.

I am certain enough to make a bet on it. (As I see it, it is free money for me.)

This has happened at least 3 times. I post a question and what follows is a debate that last at least two pages. Unfortunately my question is not answered. But I came up with an RP for Malar, so thanks anyway, everyone :)

As a ranger, you can ignore the actual deity on your character sheet as long as as you role-play your character being a devout follower of a deity.

If we want to throw a REAL wrench into Rangers of Lolth consider this.

First edition: Rangers MUST BE good (No exceptions...)

Good luck.

Not in 3.5. Ghouls are quite nice rangers, even without spells.

Ranger is no longer protector of people like in 1st and 2nd editions. His role shifted to someone mediating between nature and people. But that is not necessarily true, since ranger can easily be scourge of nature that hunts down animals to extinction or eviscerator of folks that take riches of forest too disrespectfully.

Rangers can be used almost anywhere, but we use surface ranger kit, so using one for Underdark does not really make sense if you don't have Cavestalker PrC.

Yes, but in the time that the server takes place. All rangers are good (No exceptions).

So can we remove the deity restriction in the .2da file on rangers?
