The drow will rise.
None of the schools or civic organizations are active guilds.
For a Drow wizard who does not wish to kowtow to matrons and priestesses the two guilds that make the most sense would be the Seventh Circle and Bregan D'aerthe. An ambitious wizard could rise to a leadership position in either guild by proving their worth.
I am not certain about the direction of the Seventh Circle but Bregan has taken on a number of interesting jobs in the recent past. As a mercenary group the guild guards its neutrality in political and religious affairs and acts with discretion when in the public eye. The current balance of power in Sshamath suits Bregan well: intrigues and jockeying for power create plenty of opportunities for lucrative missions and the collection of useful information and items as potential avenues for enrichment of the guild and its agents.
P.S. You are welcome to PM myself, Illithid, Selande, or Thal to arrange a meeting.

Yeeeaaaaaah.... Right. Good luck with that.
Actually, School of Necromancy is guild. Not in IC sense, but from player sense. Of course, it is past it's prime time.
The same with generalists' School of Magic. It used to house some individuals with interest in magic research (with use of some quarters).

Sometimes it's fun to be the underdog; that aside, I wouldn't pick guilds on who seems strongest OOCly, or who has the most members atm. You end up with just one guild like that, and that means "boring". Pick what makes sense for your character.

Sshamath would feel more alive if the school of magic and necromancy are actually represented by players.
Please think about it.

The Seventh Circle is still active though most of the resources currently are preoccupied outside of the city.
The Main I am currently entertaining is unfortunately locked up in jail and slightly mutilated due to trusting his female associates to have common sense (epic fail on wisdom?), else I would try to meet and greet with you.
There are a few of our wizards depraved enough to socialize from time to time, hopefully you will meet them.

Storm, you were not around, so I have to break it...
Your character is free, as per DM rumors of Sshamath. But under geas preventing going out of the city.

Actually, Sussuri was unconscious, so it might not have happened yet. He will be free to walk the city when he wakes up though (and have a feeling of a thousand needles piercing his brain). So it might not have happened yet.
