welll it is cool way but do people really need it

mechanically, some yes, some no.

rp-wise, absolutely! to our characters this is a real world, are you telling me you could never get lost in the real world? i mean yeah, if you never go anywhere, but that's not what adventures do

But if you don't get lost, how will you find ancient ruins by accident?

this thread is pure win. and Hoihe, just because you have map of the known areas, and use it, does not mean there are not uncharted areas. in fact, i would argue being abreast of the situation would allow for more opportunity to find those ancient hidden ruins. because you are not looking in the same spot everyone else has. are you telling me Columbus, and the like just sailed off with no maps. nah bra, nah.
