This is actually why I prefer a strength-based Feint build. Skip all the tedious hiding and moving slowly. Just strap on some Full Plate Armor and go GTWF with 10d6 Sneak Attacks + Epic Precision.Deathgrowl wrote:Well, until you get HiPS it's extremely tedious. Better group up.
After you get HiPS, though, it's much easier. You attack, hide, attack, hide, and so on. Remember you can use heal kits while hidden.

Slow movement can be mitigated by Camouflage from Wilderness Stalker. It is a nice class.

Yes, but it only works when outside in natural environments, unless you take Cavestalker levels. Most of the time when you need to stealth, it will be inside a cave or structure as you sneak up on an enemy.AlfarinIcebreaker wrote:Slow movement can be mitigated by Camouflage from Wilderness Stalker. If you have +4 items with H/MS on them, post a screen shot. Better yet, please notify the DM team as from all I've been told they are not allowed and I'd be pretty curious how the hell you have them.odyssey wrote:Deathgrowl wrote:Lol, you're assuming you can get +4 int and dex on items with good hide/ms? You're not going to get any +4 AC gear with hide/ms on it either unless it is grandfathered, as I said. Where do you claim to have gotten yours?

Re: Rogue Training Tips
Here are some low level tips, or I should say tactics that I use.
At level one:
1) Build Smart, build for low levels.
2) Do start up quests first, for the money. Earn money from low level areas to buy +1 items before moving on.
3) Purchase items with HPs. Breather Mask, etc. A boost in HP at level one goes a long way.
4) Maximize AC = Buy +1 AC items for each slot, they are cheap. A +2 AC item normally is FAR more expensive than two or three +1 AC items.
5) If you can use a Shield, use a shield! Even if you can two weapon fight at level one. Use a light shield, upgrade to a +1 light shield for +2 AC.
6) Buy a Bow at level one, Longbow if you can (Elves), arrows are cheap. Shoot from Max range and you may get 2-3 hits before the MoB gets to you, then switch to Sword & Shield. This also allows you to "pull" MoBs one at a time.
7) Run away. If you pull more than you can handle... run. Don't wait, don't see if you can kill one of them, run. Live and come back to fight again later.
8) Check auction house for +2 AC items. Much cheaper.
AC Level 1-7
10 Base
4/5 20 Dex
1 Dodge Feat (if you have it, you should @ level 3 or 1 if human)
1 Tumble
1 Luck of Heros Feat (if you have it, you should @ level 1)
1 Natural AC
1 Deflection AC
1 Dodge AC
1 Armor AC
4 Chain Shirt (4 AC, 4 Dex)
1 Light shield
1 Shield AC
-----
27 AC
You will be relying on weapon damage for the first few levels, so buy one handed weapons that do the most damage per hit.
Fighting undead? Use a mace or club.
Last tip... if you have multiple toons then save a "start up kit" on one of them. Items with HPs, even if only 1-3 extra hps and items with +1 AC. Makes a huge difference at levels 1-5.

Re: Rogue Training Tips
My two cents...
1. Plan your level progress so that you'll get HIPS as soon as possible.
2. Join one of the roguish guilds as early as you can.
3. Invest in hide and MS skills. Epic hide / MS equipment are extremely rare, so when you're building your character, do not count that you will ever get those. High hide / MS are very important especially if your character is planning to do some PvP or taking part in quests requiring stealth / espionage. Hiding from most of the monsters, on the other hand, doesn't require insanely high stealth skills.
4. Invest skill points in spot / listen. If you're planning to take part in roguish rp there will come a time when you have to take down an enemy rogue / assassin. If you cannot "see" them, you're as good as dead. If you both cannot see each others, the fight is going to be extremely boring.
5. High movement speed / haste spells are useful if your character is counting on hide - strike - dash and hide tactic. So is epic dodge at epic levels.
6. UMD is your friend. Invest skills points in it.
7. You don't need +4 AC equipment to become a successful rogue. I've played here for about 4 years and most of the equipment my main character (RG / ASS / IB) has, have been bought from the stores. At epic levels the character can quite easily kill the frost giant king, Castorius Leonai, fire giants, surface pit fiends etc. alone. All it takes are few spells cast from scrolls (and no lag). The spell casters can be a problem though.
8. Feint is a handy skill, but if your character is going to count on it when fighting, the skill has to be very high (as high as possible). A bit lower feint is useful when fighting lesser monsters and in certain PvP situations. Feint isn't a MUST though.
9. Remember, a true rogue doesn't wear a full plate or a chainmail!!

I know it's not more of a threat than the above, and perhaps you don't know, but the most important thing I want to know is: Can it kill Valefort?zan5bar wrote:At epic levels the character can quite easily kill the frost giant king, Castorius Leonai, fire giants, surface pit fiends etc. alone.

Re: Rogue Training Tips
Those are some good tips zan5bar, but you have a specific build which lends itself to being one of the better Rogue builds for PvE due to Invisible Blade's Unfettered Defense + Combat Expertise. That's +7/8 AC right there.
Most of the Rogue builds won't have Invisible Blade as a PrC, those will have much harder time surviving outside stealth.

Re: Rogue Training Tips
I am playing a very sub-par rogue build: Rogue20/shadowdancer10. I do fine. Solo the frost giant king quite easily with a bit of UMD. The real protection is HiPS and Epic Dodge. AC not so much (it helps, obviously...).

Re: Rogue Training Tips
storytellers (I do not think that a rogue can kill solo King Frost if not decent speakers and speed). Today I saw a player with Hide 65 and MS 58 was seen by King Frost. Also cooldown 6 seconds to re-enter the Hide he missed two attacks. As a result, three or four rounds, he lost 80-90% hitpoints. maybe it was a bad rogue build

Re: Rogue Training Tips
I've done it several times. I have about 72/68 hide/MS when I do it, mirror images and like... 40 AC? 44 when I pop shadow evade.

Re: Rogue Training Tips
You really have to play your rogue as a weak fighter if you're soloing. That's probably the bottom line. You have a little utility with scrolls yes but for the most part, you're just a weak fighter.

Re: Rogue Training Tips
ok so i am now a rogue 5 / assasin 8
i have 26 AC wthout umd on rogue h/ms gear
what i want to aks is what you do guys to avoid the 6 sec massacre a roc raider can put upo me if i get unlucky in his flurry (or i dont paralyze his ass in the 1st atack)
from AC i could only really use IMA wand and shield potions... that would bring me to 36AC which should be ok for now but even if IMA lasts a while then shield potions are 5 min so a big money drainer
scrolls are currently really not an option when i reach ca 20 UMD i can loose a bunch of them if i roll low, not mentioning the higher level ones...
i can attack and flee but thats not always an option, besides most mobs catch up with me...
