Now there's no fun in that, is there? The best idea in general is to hunt in area where monsters are challenging but can't kill you because of your strategy. Anyway....

The point was that with certain type of build it is very possible to find yourself in situation when you cannot advance at all. In that case advancing character via rcr is one possible way to do that. While leveling speed might be same (I suspect you'll level faste that way, though - ecl xp difference combined with kill difficulty), you'll probably end up having more fun.

 Of course you will get stuck. It is also possible to make few mistakes in row and burn through weekly xp as well and end the week in red. Or to realize late that your build is bad and should probably be scrapped. That's part of the game, though.

No, that's DEFINITELY not the best idea when you are very low on lvl :D. What is absolutely no fun, is getting roflstomped every time there is 1 second lag, or whenever your phone or doorbell rings!

Wizard is not one of those builds, though. most of all with the unlimited rest timer you get at those levels...

This kind of catastrophe will befall you only if you don't follow my advice, otherwise you're going to be safe and sound :P. If you follow my advice, getting stuck isnt going to happen. Monsters just cannot kill you, and keep dropping loot. Slow and steady until party, then faster and still safe and sound. Your XP only add up, boosted by the quests (at lvl 3, a wizard can do basically everything in the UD).

Ye, you're right about the build. But for new players, best to post for advice in tips & tricks, lest the RCR monster becomes the only way out!

I think the best way is to go in challenging areas all the time and die trying time and time again until you get it right and understand how things work, anything below 30 exp/kill (or even 40) is a bad idea pre epic. Risk is fun, just get better !

This is also a reason to select subpar builds instead of powerful ones... Obviously it's not the quickest and safest way to 30 but it's a very entertaining one ;)

Meaning that "following advice" can make the game very very boring and may be a very bad idea depending on playstyle.

Anyway, we're derailing the thread here.

It's a very bad idea for a first character, and can lead to Neg's situation: people stuck two months below lvl 10 isnt normal. It doesnt matter at all if the build is super strong or subpar when you're below lvl 10. Risk is fun only when you survive. When you get the XP hits because of "reasons" (1 sec lag, rubberbanded, crashed and logged back dead, and so on...) and after a full day of work you wasted your only hour of play to get an XP penalty instead of seeing progress, then no, it's a TERRIBLE idea :D.

Everything that can kill you is a bad idea, pre and post epic! LMAO.

@ Neg: you're complaining you're getting stuck, I am getting you out of there. If you find it more entertaining to be a lowbie after two months you fail hard, be my guest :). After a month of "boredom" (occasional, only when solo) I'll be epic, then let's see who's having fun :D.

Also, how is giving advice of this kind derailing the thread?

I'll return the logic, everything that can't kill you is a terrible idea because there is no risk ! And thus hardly any fun, in the end you'll figure things out anyway.

Those bad days can happen, hell there are levels where my character died more than 10 times even but in the end .. it all falls into place :P

Given the thread, not for everyone, it seems :P

My characters (wizards) usually get to lvl 30 with 3/4 total deaths. And they get there fast, mostly with party play, and soloing rather safely, even if I can full well play my wizard.

New players going Rambo? Sure, go ahead...then let's make a thread on how hard it is to level, and how bad it is to get stuck, lol

That wasn't me by the way.

1. I'm not complaining.
2. I didn't ask for help.
3. I'm not stuck at the moment.

Seriously, though, Aelcar, you have a real bad habit of offering "advice" and "help" when people didn't ask for it. Concentrate on OP's problem, will you? Unwanted advice is a bad thing. Some people enjoy thinking and solving their own problems. The moment you offer "help" they didn't ask for, you're trying to interfere into their game and attempt ruin it by stealing their problem. It ain't a good thing to do.

While you spend month getting to epic level with just one character in the same time I can make three or five different ones and have much more fun with them compared to what I would get leveling a single char. While they won't be epic that'll be certainly more entertaining then wasting time grinding at rate of 13xp per kill. Then I can delete them without much regret and create something else. Being epic is not worth it. Also, when you're under level 20, you should be hunting monsters that give you at least 30xp per kill if not 50 and only resort to lower reward if you are forced to play it "safe"(can't find a party at all, play something that gets power late) or find grinding this particular monster relaxing.

Seriously noone will suggest to a player starting his first character to go grind on his own at a high risk areas. It is ok if someone can equip his character with the best equipment for every level ( that someone is not a new player ) or have a higher level buff you or party. Even then when you grind alone you do it from safety.

Dont mix surface with ud. On the surface you can grind for 40xp from safety on the ud it is not.

And the OP did ask for advice, whether there are alternatives to the 13xp he can get on his on.

Hmm...this thread is called "Somewhat Confused". Perhaps you forgot there is an OP, with a problem :D. I am glad you read a lot of my posts, though (that must be where the "bad habit" remark comes from). I'll refrain from pointing out your bad habits, unless you're looking for feedback :).

I respect your opinion. For me, having a bunch of characters is downright terrible, and I like having precious few, possibly one/two at time. To each his own, but this IS derailing the thread. Nobody cares about this.

The OP has a problem with ONE particular character in the UD. A Wizard. Not five different characters he's leveling up. I gave my advice on that. Which is sound, since I used it myself multiple times, and as far as experience goes, few can say they have my level of knowledge of wizards (every kind, every alignment) both up and downstairs, so to speak :).

Let's stay on topic.

+1. This is worded much better and clearer than I had done before.

hi all, i'd just like to say i'm now proudly level 6, and a big thanks to a few friends i made down there who have been a HUGE help in RPing with me and hunting with me, dunno what i'd do without them, community is tight down in the UD for a bunch of evil self-centered elves xD

Yeah, it might come to a sort of surprise to you, but that is exactly how it goes :).
