What is the difference between indentured servant and slave? (aside from slaves being restricted to non-magical races -> orcs/tanarukks) . The way I see it indtured servant's service eventually end, and slave is kept in service forever, as a property... but is there more to it?

How does one become "inhabitant" of the city of Sshamath? Non-drow can't be citizen. So at which point one becomes "inhabitant"?

Slaves
Slaves have no rights at all and are subject to bodily punishment or worse for failure to carry out the work they are ordered to do. They are property of whomever owns them, and can be freely traded or even rented out for whatever service their master deems fit, including such horrific things as to serve as a testsubject for a new method of torture or unwillingly denoting parts of their body to others.

Indentured servants
Indentured servant have a contract that clearly stipulates the exact terms under which they serve, including, but not limited to: line of work, payment, lodging, equipment, duration, and compensation for damages / injuries sustained while in service. The contract will also include any punishment or disciplinary actions the indentured servant might be subject to for failure to serve according to the terms of the contract. Furthermore the contract will stipulate what sort of compensation the indentured servant must receive for any breaches of the contract by their employer.

If the employer violates the contract in some fashion that is not covered by this last part, or there are numerous violations that are subject to compensation, the indentured servant can be freed prior to the end of their servitude by pleading their case in front of the ruling body, which in Sshamath is the Conclave.

Generally, however, the employer will attempt to draw up a contract that essentially makes the indentured servant a slave for the rest of their natural lives, although some even attempt to go beyond that.
