To me, you either go all out on DCs or ignore it. There isn't really a sweetspot in between, as you've limited casting. A good DC caster gets at least 30+spell level in his chosen school, the more the better.
For example:
10 base
11 Intelligence (20 start, +7, +5 epic feats)
1 prodigy
3-4 Caster Level
2 Fox's Intelligence spell
3 Epic focus
There are other bonuses, like the bonuses provided by a red wizard (+1 DC, +5 CL), bloodmage (+3 CL), practiced spellcaster abuse (+3 CL), Gnome (+2 DC to illusion), Shadow Adept (+2 DC, +3 CL to certain schools) and Archmage (+2 CL) to also factor in to get an even higher DC.
For the most part, high DCs offer crowd control. An arcane caster without DC spells will do well thanks to a lot of no-save spells, but almost all of these spells are single target. That's where the DC mage gets an advantage. Eliminating many enemies at once, or crippling them, is powerful but the non-DC caster usually tries to get some other perks instead to even it out.
