I mean, so far the sorcerer is the most powerful of the two in most situations. Would that change and bring some necessary power back to the Wizard? (not saying any of the two needs to be more powerful btw)
Hi Xan,

I think you are asking a very difficult question... I don't know the answer.

It isn't my intent to use the experimental systems to re-balance things. Its about adding new options and extending as well as enhancing the game. I think that casters will enjoy being able to use Heighten Spell and the non-metamagic equivalent of that (which doesn't increase spell level, but lets you use a higher level slot to cast a lower level spell). Its a part of PnP which I think was really missed in NWN / NWN2.

Of course there's plenty of content for non-casters as well, and I am in fact trying to expand on that. Its harder to come with ideas for feats than it is for spells, there's less source material to work with and some of it remains hard to adapt for NWN. We have added a lot of new melee feats and combat style modes. You could check out the "One Hander" feat for example.
I always ask the hard questions. ;)

Also, any idea on making Psionics spellbook/system? Is it even possible? Too powerful? Too much work?

:P

Hi,

Making a psionics spell book is possible. You can conceivably make any sort of spell book you want. Depending on how psionics works you might need to make a sort of spell points system for it. If it works like regular spell slots then you can just use the system already in place for that.

The thing with an entirely new spell book is how much work you need to do to fill it. If it re-uses content that you already have, perhaps with some new bits added, then its not a lot of work. With Psionics I think it would be a lot of work. You'd need to add a lot of unique new "spells". If you are willing to work on it for a longer period its certainly do-able. Or you could do it in chunks by starting with more limited psionic classes and then gradually expand the selection of abilities with each new class.

I can't seem to choose spells for a spirit shaman.

I'm interested in the shifter. How are the forms going to compare to things like Dragon Shaped druids, especially since they'll have more casting levels? I'm not screaming BALANCE here, I just want to know how it plays out right now.

That's right, in D&D spirit shamans don't learn new spells when they level up. This is on purpose.

All spells are available to Spirit Shamans like Druids and Clerics, and they pick which to memorize (bargain with the spirits) when they rest. However, they get uses per day of those spells like a sorcerer. Its what distinguishes the class from sorcerers and favored souls. Stock NWN 2 ignored this aspect of the class, which I think diminished its appeal and unique position among other base-classes.

The shifter isn't among the experimental content. It won't be be balanced around Dragon form, a late epic ability. It will offer a different path with its own appeals and weaknesses. How well it scales into late epic levels will partly depend on how specialized the player becomes with a particular shape. The prestige class is open to more classes than just the Druid.

No, I mean I can't seem to choose spells for the spirit shaman. Ever. Under any circumstances. Through the spellbook.

Update 16th of May, 2015.
  • Fixed Warlock invocation progression when leveling up.
  • Fixed Spell and Invocation swapping during level-ups. Exploit Fix and userfriendliness fixes.
  • Fixed metamagic with the Hotbar link tool.
  • Added Auto Choice tool which lets you pre-select a spell sub choice so it will be auto-picked later on.
  • Level-up spell progression button is now hidden on the spellbook, unless a new casterlevel was attained for the selected class.
  • Added help messages for players to clarify how the system works.
  • Added code to have Eldritch Blast and Spear properly use selected metamagic effects (blast essences).
  • Blast Infidel (Hierophant) should now properly work with negative energy spells.
  • A number of fixes for the melee feats.
  • Northern Hewing now gives a damage bonus depending on strength modifier.
  • One Hander's deflecting sweep now gives less AC per parry skill ranks.
  • Norhtern Hewing, Sembian fencing, and Atkhatlan triparite styles shouldn't be active at the same time.
  • Improved Trip now requires Combat Expertise.
  • Feint has a 12 second cooldown.
  • Arterial strike tweaked, Brutal strike tweaked.
  • Parry & Tumble have a slightly longer window of effectiveness.

I can't reproduce your issue, is it possible that you hadn't selected the right class (icon) in the spell book, or that you were on a page / spell level which doesn't contain any spells? Perhaps restarting the module fixes it?

Spellslot gear
Gear with "+1 spell slot" grants an slot even if you dont possess the level for casting it. (lvl 1 wizard can memorize lvl9 spells as example)

School specialization
Selecting school specialization and prohibited school seems not implemented yet. Choosing a wizard spell school at creation doesnt add +1 spell slot/level. When i cast the first spell i get an feat called generalist.

Stormlord and Palemaster
Both recieve full spell progression. I Didnt test warpriest and other non-full-progression classes.

Warlock Shadowcaster
The summon shadow line does not scale in power. All summon the same shadow.

Thank you, good catches. :)

I don't know if the Wizard schools part is entirely functional in the public module. Normally you can use a feat to start a conversation through which you can select opposition schools.

Not all warlocks are "pact-holders." Some are what is called inherents. How are you considering those?

Also, how will current characters in game be converted to this new system? Are we talking vault-wipe here?

Hey guys

I just wanted to thank everyone for testing and share my incomplete results on spells tested with wizards in the alternative system. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... QOVzE/edit
Hidden: show
Black is for not tested. Green is for tested and working. Red is for not working, cannot be tested, or missing.
I have added blue filled areas for where DCs are too high or too low.
I will hopefully be able to update this soon.

As you can see, I took a methodical approach to testing the spells, and there are a number of meta magics I have not got to. To properly test the system requires a tedious and attentive determination. It is quite the project. Thanks again.

Thanks Eclyppticon. You do a great work!

I did abit more testing on Jegs...

- in Jegs there is no "select spell school" feat.
- Heighten Spell: does not work currently. Tested with flame arrow.
- Spell selection: no level requirement. A lvl1 char can choose a lvl9 spell.
- Techsmith of Gond: the golem has a base damage of 2-20, which is quite high. bug?

Spells
- Gate: pitfiend, angel and xorn do not appear if summoned. all other work. perhaps because they are "old summons" (different scripting), which didnt work on older Jeg Versions.
- Epic Gate: neutral and good alignment guys summon an angel without a weapon (1-3 dmg).
- Bigbys: the hands cant die and will get aggro from monsters and thus can tank forever.

I was doing a test of the new spell system with my Mystran wizard 17/ cleric 13 and I noticed she had access to all the spell levels. She has the feats Practiced Spellcaster for both Wizard and Cleric and they seemed to be bumping up her maximum allowed spell slots, so she had the full arsenal of Wizard spells as per a 21st level wizard (4+1 per level, she's a diviner specialist) and for cleric she had all the spell access of a 17th level cleric (levels 1-9, albeit only 3 level 8 and 2 level 9 slots).

I don't think this is the intended application of Practiced Spellcaster?
