Merielle steps out in the early morning light and looks about, still dazed from the night before, and her eyes fall on the notes.
Slowly she bends to pick each note up whispering prayers as she does so...
'By the Mercies... Forgive me Brothers... Sisters... May Martyrdom welcome you each... Dearest Mercies! Let it be that those uncounted reached their destinations...'

Never someone to need much sleep, Esen had returned from his night watch over the streets surrounding the Ilmater Sanctuary. Stopping by a backyard he watched Merielle from afar stepping out to pick up the letters. Whoever had left them there had escaped him. He glanced down as he then disappeared. Indeed, he was sure there would be further sad news to hear from Merielle.

Upon searching the sanctuary, William is nowhere to be found. All his belongings are gone as well and a letter is left on his bed. The script is messy and words are mis-spelled....

Sister Merielle,

By now I'm sure you have found my dagger. I can't face you again after going against your wishes. I've left to find out how to become a great hero! I will make you proud of me, I swear. Once I've learned how to survive on my own I will be able to protect the Sanctuary better. Please don't be sad..Please don't try to look for me. I will be ok. The sore on my back is get'n better I think, It only hurts when I get mad. I will return a great hero, until then take care of Dianne.. Tell her I'm sorry for leaving..

[comepletely out of character Merielle is seen running from the temple face a mix of rage and anguish... she circles the city until exhausted she returns to the temple praying for guidance in a manner of desperation and anger that most look at her oddly]

The cool night air washes over the young boys face as he darts from bush to bush. Keeping himself to the shadows, not only to stay out of the sight of people looking for him, but to also avoid the creatures that lurk near the roadside attacking weary travelers. Gripping his dagger tightly with both hands, as it was very large compared to the frame of the small child, he made his way south.

"I'll be fine, it's just my mind playing tricks..." He kept repeating to himself, over and over. Jumping at the smallest noise, startled by the slightest movement.

"Just a little further and I'll make camp." He said to himself out loud, hoping to make himself feel a little less alone...

//Sorry for those that were in on this...I tried to log back in and kept crashing..I will continue it tomorrow. For now Billy is traveling south..

[Unsure what else to do she asks about in Taverns and other populated places, leaving carefully written notes as she passes. She hands them to members of the guard, telling them:
'Please if you see him, Assure him that Sister Meri only wishes him home safely, no one is angry, he did no wrong.'
Obviously exhausted and often near tears she continues on, jaw clenched determinedly, and muttering prayers of hope as she walks]
In the Tavern, outside the Taverns and notable places in the city, and later that day all along the southern routes these messages can be seen written painstakingly and stamped with the Ilmatari symbol:

~ that very night, it had not taken too many hours for his animal companion to find and trace Billy down. He had been informed and had informed the rest at the Sanctuary that Billy was heading somewhere southwards.

Taking some time for a quick reverie, Esen prepared his things for traveling. He was to rejoin the bear lord to continue his pursuit of Billy. He left the sactuary the following morning and traveled in silence within the plane of etherealness. If he would be able to find Billy before Merielle herself, it would be all of a success. He had the advantage over anyone because of the scent from the letter. Seijin was to amplify and search for the scent further south, while Esen made his way as quickly as he could southwards. Wherever Billy was; no matter what he wanted to find him before Merielle, a woman that took her duty to the extreme and made everyone else feel like worthless tools compared to her so called self-righteousness. Hopefuly with the aid of his celestial companion and its superior scent ability, it would not take too long to find the boy. ~

*Tarnok peers at the note.. taking it in. He snorts once in worry. He sniffs the note, then goes into the sancturay to billy's bed. He sniffs around the bed taking in his scent.. looking for anything untold. He searches for the pathetic little carving of a knight to see if he took it with him. With the scent of the boy in his mind and a prayer to Lathander and the Mother Goddess in his heart, he begins walking south. A small carved flower, slightly lopsdied lays untouched on the boy's bed where gnarled and non deleicate, black skinned hands left it.*

Meri returns long enough to eat and get more parchment. There she speaks quickly to the Sisters and Brother Marcus.
Finding no trace of Esen, and the note from Billy on the desk where she had left it, she smiles.
'May your steps be quick and guided. You always could outrun me.'
She ventures a faint smile and turns to go spotting the carved flower.
'Ilmater has blessed me with such stalwart companions...'
As she turns to head back out, she promises the Sisters not to worry, and gives Dianne a gentle hug.
'Don't worry darling. We will find him.'
The girl sniffs and nods murmering that she didn't mind Billy's teasing so much. Meri answers with a comforting smile and a soft nod, turning before her own tears find thier way to the surface and heads back out.

A letter sealed with Ilmater's Symbol goes out in the middle of the night to the temple of Ilmater in Baldur's Gate:

Sisters, Brothers, Dear Friends:

Billy was seen one night past just south of Candlekeep... at the small camp. I made my way there finding an Ilmatari symbol written in the dirt... in his hand writting no less. Our search shall fan out from there...
I know some have passed this way already. Send word... the symbol was almost impossible to see... had it not been that I know his penmanship, it would have been missed.
Hope and Faith to all, this renews my spirits somewhat!
I will rest the night in Candlekeep and resume my travels at dawn.
Mercy guide you all and keep you all safe.

A hasty message is penned and sent out from Candlekeep to the Sanctuary of Ilmater in Baldur's Gate sealed with Ilmater's Holy Symbol:

Dearest Brothers, Sisters, Friends and Allies:

Send word that our wayward child is safe at last! I watch him sleep now as I write. We had to forego bringing him back to Baldur's Gate because of a Bhaalist attack and the daylight was far too fleeting for comfort. For now we remain at Candlekeep until travel is safe.

You all have my most sincere thanks in helping find him. It is however only half the battle. Now we must see the children safe, and the Bhaalists are still very much a threat to Ilmater and his Allies.

I will send word when a prudent course of action can be agreed upon.
In the meantime please see to it that word is sent of William's safety, and our flyers taken down.

It had been days since the news about the safety of Billy reached the redhead's ears. He did not really know what to think about it. Happy, he was, but then again he did not show such thing. When asked what seemed to have placed him more distant than before he would just give a shrug of his shoulder and keep silent.

To continue his duties for Ilmater he would, although he changed the times he occupied himself of everything and instead he always took up his task whenever he could be alone. What was happenning to Esen, no one could tell.

He spoke to his celestial friend who told him they had done their part on the rescue of the child, yet... Esen remained with a very bitter taste. Why he had failed to do more, he didn't know.

He guessed that time would heal this strange feeling. Whatever it was...

[A hastily scrawled message arrives at the temple in the middle of the night]

Forgive me Brothers and Sisters... Forgive me please.
The situation is dire. Any aid that can be spared send it to Candlekeep please. I will explain but now there is not time.
Time works against us, and there are things set in motion I do not understand.
The gods test us Brother and Sisters... And while there is still hope, it is nigh more than a faintly burning ember. Pray... Pray... and may Mercy guide us all.
