I don't even see that summon for sale in BG

Progression on this server is slow by design. If your new to the server and have no gold or equipment it can make your first levels rather hard at best. The easiest way to explore is to group up. But then you have to share all the treasure you find. So no matter what advice you might get, Its going to take some time to learn the server and gather items you need to survive. You have taken the right step in posting your questions here on the forums. There are many of great people on this server that are very knowledgeable on builds, RP and just about other questions you might have. The main thing is to have fun and keep it fun for those around you. Good luck!!

It's become noticeably easier since hitting third spell casting level though.

As an update, I've found that making myself invisible and then buffing my summon creature III spell has good results. Summon is buffed enough to tank and kill. Fits in well with how I rp with the old man. Plus it makes me feel cool.
Currently trying to train at kobold ruins. Would go further with a party.

I'm new and a little bit lost too! I'd be happy to wander about with you, though I'm only level 4 and don't really have any idea what I'm doing.

I'm game. I've been hanging around the kobold ruins.

I checked the kobold ruins a while back, got about a room into it before I was running for my life. Maybe we'll have more luck together
I'll keep an eye out for you! My ingame name is "Jadoth Silverdawn". Messaging me isn't effective, though... every time I've tried to message someone it tells me I can't find the player.

If dungeon delving is too risky for you (either due to lag or lack of warm bod--er, party members), take up fishing! There is an EXP cap per server reset (about 1250-1350), and it is fairly time-consuming, but it is a relatively safe way to get your share of EXP and money even with minimal investment in Survival.
