I think this is one of the most interesting RP aspects of ancient immortal creatures. But I strongly disagree with the living being unaffected by this.
If anything, the living are MORE affected by it: in a span of mere (precious few) decades, humans lose flexibility, enter "middle age crises" and overall fail to understand even one generation after them (relatively old parents with relatively young kids).
No living being and very few Undead have Anne Rice's Louis power to "adapt to the Eras", thus attaining true immortality.
