If we take away bless weapon, where does it end? Flame weapon should go as well then, since it's specific to a single class. And while we're there, no more mirror image, displacement, improved mage armor, amplify or enervation. All of these are specific to a single "class". One could just as well just go the mile and kill off deathwards, freedom of movement and silence too. Just get rid of UMD all together.

That said, if its possible, making holy sword only usable if you've a level in paladin, instead of being lawful good, would be great.
None of those spells are exactly signature spells, and all of them are craftable by classes which can easily enough be envisioned as crafters and peddlers of their creations. Wizards, clerics, sorcerers, spirit shamans, bards... Honestly, how many level 15+ paladins with craft wand feat who are willing to run around and hand out or sell wands with some of their most holy spells to non-paladins would exist? I mean, yeah, theoretically a paladin like that could exist. Theoretically.

From the mechanical side, 2d6 divine damage to evil for non-paladins with the duration of 15 minutes (if the CL is 15 as stated on wiki, and if the spell has been changed to 1min/round) is far from anywhere within the limits of what's reasonable for this server IMO. That means for paladin dips as well. If someone wants a holy sword spell they should invest enough levels into the paladin class. Bless weapon is less of an issue from the mechanical side if the infinite duration has been fixed. But on the other hand it's a 4.5k wand.

And while these are looked into, maybe it may be fixed altogether that all that kind of buffs disappeared if character crashed or otherwise had to relog. That was most annoying.

All I'm saying is, I think Charraj currently has a wand of Holy Sword that he can use. And Charraj should NOT be able to use Holy Sword.

It is true that with the bug fixed, bless weapon wands are significantly less useful. They only last a few minutes now. They are less powerful than flame weapon, which gives you 1d8 against everything that's not fire immune as opposed to 2d6 vs just one enemy type.

There is nothing in the spell description in the game OR in the source book to indicate it is to be treated any differently than any other spell. It is not special in any way. In fact, since holy sword makes a weapon, albeit briefly, a holy weapon, the alignment restriction should be altered to any non-evil. As holy weapons only have a negative effect on evil persons that wield them.

Clearly this decision isn't up to me or any one person really, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest in any source book that I can find that a wand of holy sword is somehow lore breaking. And in fact, as I said, the source books imply that our server is already MORE restrictive on holy sword usage than D&D actually requires.

Paladins aren't special, and neither are their spells. Why should they be treated any differently?

Simple answer is No

Seems plenty of others have provided actual counter argument as well that we already limit more than any other server and that is true with Holy Sword. Pretty big pain in the arse if you ask me. I agree any alignment not EVIL should be able to use the wand. Also has anyone checked if a lawful good pc can enchant a weapon for a EVIL pc? Or does spell fizzle based on what it is cast on rather than who uses it?

But, but now you got me confused .... look at the eight sentence "This spell is not cumulative with bless weapon or any other spell that might modify the weapon in any way."

^^Right it is not supposed to I guess? However Bless Weapon mechanically is Magic damage and stacks with other magic damages, Holy sword is Divine and stacks with other divines. Unlike flame weapon which only takes the highest........Don't get me wrong I love that magic and divine stack!

That is an excuse that takes the generalized rules without looking at the context specifically. You also did not touch on the mechanical power of the spell, avoiding it conveniently. I would definitely like to see more things to be as according to sourcebooks, but balance of the server is as it is and there are limits set in place. If we go down the "it's not in the sourcebooks" road, I can make an endless list of things that are not according to sourcebooks but were changed for the balance of the server.

What does your "simple answer" mean actually? You don't have an issue with a wand that gives +5 and 2d6 divine damage to a weapon for 15 minutes per charge? Is this BGTSCC or am I on the wrong forums? I'm trying to view this objectively, and I would love to hear an objective counter argument, at least to the mechanical side. So far I haven't heard one. Not that it's up to me to decide, I'm simply suggesting a balance fix here which also happens to fix something that irks me from the roleplaying side of things.

This thread is about whether or not they should be on wands, not whether they should stack. No, they should not stack, but that is a different topic.
