My advice to you would be this. Either make a Paladin30 or Paladin26/Monk4 or a Favored Soul26/Paladin4. All these builds have CL30 so they wont be dispeled by a Gr. Dispel once it get fixed and they are hard to dispel with a mord.

From what i read in your initial post, the FS/Paladin is closer to what you need, becasue of all the healing spells Favored Souls get

Thanks for the tips everyone. I've sort of decided to give up on this game for now as I can't seem to grasp its mechanics despite several months of trying. I appreciate everyone's advice!

That's unfortunate as it's a lot of fun. You ought to just try a pure character for your first go, you'll be fine as there is much less to think about, get into the rp and the mechanics will come in time.

I genuinely wish I could. Every time I try a new character, I later on find out something's wrong with the build or I messed up somehow and my character becomes ineffective in later areas and I'm forced to restart. I also haven't seen any RP anywhere on the surface or Underdark, so it's a bit difficult to stick around overall.

I can't get my build right no matter how many characters I make and there doesn't seem to be any real explanation anywhere as to how you're supposed to learn. So... yeah.

Here are some builds of mine, they are NOT the best, I am mediocre at building, but just as some idea's that are fairly simple, still fun and can't really be screwed up too badly :)

Also, just to make you feel a little better about it, I still play my very first character as my main, he is very poorly built as he has two or three feats that he did not need and is missing an equal amount that would have been really nice to have. However, as I have played he has begun (in some cases recently) to be able to take on area's I previously considered off limits. It is not just about the build, it is about having patience and engaging others in game and on the forums. Maybe some day I will RCR to "fix" Cranston, but even if I never do he is fine as he is... Don't think he will ever solo the frost king, yuan-ti queen, balor or white dragon, but that is ok and honestly? Maybe he will...Until last weekend I didn't think I could solo Chaos or the Black Dragon in the wyrm lair, but now I know he can (though ended the fight with the dragon at 9 HP!) In any case, regarding RP what are your play times? I am sure there are plenty of folks that have been around for a while and would be willing to meet up with you in game, perhaps even do some IC and OOC training on what you can do to survive..

So here are some builds, if you care to try them:

http://nwn2db.com/build/?222347 - This is a Paladin build that utilizes the Morninglord of Lathander PRC (Doomguide of Kelemvor in stock NWN2) and the Hospitaler PRC. Built to either be able to act as party tank, or damage dealer through divine shield and epic divine might. Gets lots of uses of turn undead to accomplish this and high Paladin spell caster level for decent use of minute/level buffs. Luck of hero's could be switched out for Extend spell for longer buff durations or even Practiced Spell Caster (though I don't think that is necessary). Paladin spells are pretty decent so having those spells can be nice for stacking spells to strength / charisma, enhancement bonus and keen property to weapons/shields and stuff like that.

http://nwn2db.com/build/?224279 - This is a pure dex bard... maybe not as good as a Strength Bard 26 / Fighter 4 or even a Bard/Blackguard that uses Epic Divine Might, but with Perfect Two Weapon Fighting and Inspire Courage you should get in some decent hits and damage. If you question a Bards power level search for MrM3ntalist's post regarding the Naked Bard.

http://nwn2db.com/build/?212634 - Here is kind of a power build... It is a Gish (fighter/mage) gaining 26 BAB (6 attacks/round) and 27 Caster Level. Many feel it is not worth it to use the feats to take Harper Agent, but with Dragon Slayer True Strike, you can get the 6th attack to hit sometimes and I just think it is cool. YMMV

And for comparison, here is Cranston...My first ever build played on any PW (as this is my first PW). He's not perfect by any means, but I sure enjoy playing him still and he has a LOT of connections on the Sword Coast from the past year and a half or so. :) These are just a few thoughts, take a look and see if anything resonates with you. Also, look at all the comments at the bottom... A whole bunch of people here and on the NWN2 DB will help any time you ask. And if you see my name on scry in game I would be happy to adventure with you. I even have some low levels that I could take and show you a few places to go, should you be interested.
