And it will screw up many not optimzed/overpowered, but fun to play multiclass caster/something else builds (with a casterlevel of 16~20) - these will probably become unplayable now.

I even worry for my Ranger / Assassin... But I think it best to wait and see how things turn out. Better to make tweaks than just leave it as is with no changes ever, right?

I do not see how a meat shield prevents dispels. Dispels are still being fired repeatedly whether there is a meat shield or not and when you ward others, the meat shield's wards will still go down as it works on your CL.crimsonrain15 wrote:I don't think there's an issue with the mobs out there that can dispel. If you're afraid of being dispelled, grab a meat shield or two. I'm sure there are some laying around somewhere. Or go to other dungeons.
It is always possible to revert to the good old "I'll just invis myself and run around and heal you because I suck too much and I keep getting dispelled."
I hope that the unoptimized builds which pick just a few caster classes will not suffer too much. To me it can feel a bit like that some people are saying it is a huge issue but have a bit of a narrower view of things. I find myself agreeing with Invoker - dedicated casters will be even stronger. You either go 30 levels of wizard or whatever or you do not play a caster. Not sure how it aids to fix the power levels but hey.

Okay ... so my CL25 dude is going to get pumped. So that's out - I don't want to get into epics only to find he gets dispelled everywhere.
What about a CL26+4 with practised spellcaster. That's a CL of 30, but is that abusing practised spellcaster because the other 4 levels I'm taking aren't from a caster class? What exactly is practiced spellcaster abuse??? I always thought it was getting your CL above 30.

Re: Acceptable CL
PsC abuse is using PsC to get your CL above 30 (by taking levels in a spellcasting class that still counts as not-spellcasting for some reason).
26+4 with PsC is perfectly fine, and is exactly what it is intended to be used for.

Re: Acceptable CL
Abuse refers to the bug that when you take a spellcasting PRC and practiced spellcaster, you get +4 CL instead of +1 CL for every non-casting level up to +4. So for example, a 5 wizard/ 1 palemaster has 6 CL. With practiced spellcaster he has 6+4. With the fix, he still has 6. If he takes the 2nd palemaster level he has 6 CL since it doesn't provide any spell-progression, but with practiced spellcaster he gets 7 (6+1) with the fix and 10 (6+4) without the fix. The abuse is most commonly thought to be with taking your CL above 30, but it also helps a lot when levelling up.Hammer_Song wrote:Okay ... so my CL25 dude is going to get pumped. True casters will be even stronger, mainly defensively. If you get more than 30 CL, that doesn't do anything defensively at the moment. With the dispel fix however, it makes those characters more difficult to dispel. You can imagine that even now level 30 casters barely get dispelled at all, so imagine the difficulty in dispelling a CL33-35 character. This will mostly power up the classes that should stand out on their excellence, like Archmage, Red Wizard and Hierophant. Shadow Adepts suffer a bit (since transmutation has a lot of great buffing spells) and bloodmages go +-0.
Of course, offensively their power is increased if only because everyone else's defences against dispels gets weaker. Even Greater Dispel Magic could become a little useful.
