Re: Vampire Slayer / Witch Hunter Build

As I am playing an Aurilite outsider/undead/witch hunter along with Karond IC, I just want to add a few comments as well about the IC character motivations at work given Auril may initially seem to be an odd choice for a god of a hunter such as this. I hope that we are not hijacking your thread Mac, so if we are, please tell us to start a new one!
First, as Karond said, this is just so so so true:
Second, there are a two different personality dimensions to the character that inform her "hunting" career. Part of it is as an open Auril worshiper. The other part is just personal eclectic beliefs. As all of this is pretty heavy on harming, oppressing and killing others and not really at all altruism, respect for life, or belief in the dignity of sentient beings in the process of hunting outsiders, undead, and those associated with either, this is clearly to me an evil hunter character, not a good one as say Atlas proposed earlier in the thread -- Atlas, your proposed hunter version I think would be quite fun to play as well.
As an Aurilite
-She is a ranger from a region where winter like conditions are the norm year round and so even if not calling Auril a patron would likely show at least moderate respect to her as a god.
-She sees ice, glaciers, cold settings, and snow as supremely beautiful natural constructs and anything that threatens them as something extraordinary insulting in even just a secular sense. As a result, she hates fire and anything associated with it such as fiends. This also makes her naturally akin to the Aurilite faith and showing due respect (by herself and others) for Auril's tastes and divine power.
-She prefers cold, snowy, and clouded/darker climates and creatures of these climates and living wild in such climates.
Eclectic Beliefs
-Due to her past and upbringing, my character has bizarre racial and natural theories about the purity of Faerunian races. She believes that outsiders taint the superior legacy races of Faerun and that all traces of outsider blood in Faerun must be purged. Therefore, she has Tieflings, Genasi, and Aasimar on her hunting list, unless there is a decent reason for a strategic exception, as well as fiends, fiend pact holders, and fiend worshipers that Auril wouldn't necessarily care about (or even might look upon positively) if they were not associated with fire. This is a secular held belief and really has nothing to do with Auril beyond reserving a special hatred for fire based fiends and Tieflings or fire based outsider worshipers or pact holders.
-While she is not a druid, she holds a deep respect for nature and the natural order, as long as nature does not harm her affinity for beauty in cold climates. She believes that undead and those associated with them are an affront against the natural order and must be destroyed.
-She has no sense of honor or trustworthiness in her hunting tactics nor any sympathy with respecting life, altruism, or a belief in the dignity of sentient beings. The hunting mission is all that matters to her and the mission is personal and the ends justify all of the means. This pretty clearly makes her evil and not lawful, although maybe not chaotic.

The concept makes even mundane hunting or grinding into a unique and interesting RP exercise I just have not easily felt with a lot of other character concepts. I feel as though my character has extreme RP passion behind hunting various NPC foes beyond just "they are evil and need to die" or "they attacked first!". This adds up to really neat RP combined with a group IC that has similar views. Note, this is not unique to an Aurilite hunter type character of course.Karond wrote:We've already done several hunts together through various areas, and just the other day for the first time all four of us happened to get together at the same time which was great. The roleplay is excellent. We're currently trying to setup contacts, like a specialized "spy" network, or finding recurring allies and foes. What I love about the roleplay is that it naturally lends purpose to everyday gameplay. Hunting monsters is your purpose, and it also just happens to be what most players are doing anyway so its easy to get into character
