I view the quests entirely as OOC. As of late I've even started having the AFK tag up when running quests.

I can't see how they can ever be IC. It's a levelling mechanic (which could be less time consuming, please), and the quest design is rather poor in terms of repeatability. I mean, after Anora loses her bracelet for the 50th time...and so on. Barely any quest makes sense to do twice, some not even once. Should the character just forget that they've done the quest before? Or respond to all information other characters give you? (oh, you've already killed the orc chieftain. No need for me to bother then)

OOC makes more sense given how its laid out on this server :)

Fully IC.

But preferably entirely abolished.

Hello,

Personally, I view the quests as semi-IC. For example, if I am heading to the mines to collect the dwarf's ore and a group of adventurers in the Cloakwood, I will explain my errand into the mines as a mean to get role play and a group together. As for the choices at the end - It doesn't really matter to me and I consider it more OOC unless there would be an actual alignment shift to your decision.

Vandimion.

I do think it is silly that generally speaking the googguy decision results in more xp and no gold while the bad guy decision results in gold and less xp. That part tends to be hidden from other players so I really don't care how goodly bad guys act or visa versa. The point in my eyes it is IC when you complete a quest. If you stuff hay in scarecrows or collect bodies for research other characters can see this. Their RP may revolve around it to some extend. To simply say "NAU! I DID IT 4 XP'S IT DONT COUNT!" seems rather unfair to those of us who thought about the IC consequences before we returned jaspen or picked up poop.

Those people that claim to be speaking for the DM's when you say they already ruled on this do you mind hopping on your DM account and posting in an official capacity?

*waves hands frantically* Ohhh, I know a way! A single quest given by an NPC in the nexus that asks players a series of 10 multiple choice questions(out of a pool of 50) that quiz them on the server rules. Each question correctly answered gives 1000xp, but if any single question is answered incorrectly it takes away all the xp accumulated by the quest, plus the quest ends and a bright pink and yellow clown hat is instead given as a reward. Brilliant I say! You're welcome BG.

As for the OP, I didn't vote because none of the options reflected my opinion towards questing, which is that I treat them OOC'ly until I come across a fellow adventurer, and then I try to RP something related to the quest I'm currently doing.

Like many other players, my preferred method of gaining xp is via questing, and never grinding. And it certainly does get tedious having to invent RP related to a quest I've done a thousand times before.

I think the main problem with surface quests is that they take a long time to complete, which make them quite bored. So, people want to make them as quick as possible. And this is why the OOC debate appears IMO.

I don't find this problem with the UD quests. They are less in number but give about the the same amount of xp. And can easily be done IC RPing, grouping and so. To put an example, I had a very funny time the last time I made them and met another char in the basilisks caves. Then we decided to join forces to hunt the drider of the temple quest.

So, maybe reducing the number of quests but increasing the xp per quest could be a solution. Just an opinion...

I have never done the imp quest on my paladin. I also haven't done those quests for a very, very long time.

I'd be happy seeing them gone and replaced by RPXP, but I also recognise I am in a minority on this :)

you know, after thinking about it I did have a couple other characters do quests that didn't fit their RP. :/

Shaytessa caught a rat, and stuffed scarecrows... she also did a few other quests that were "beneath" her... :/

Drathyrra did the Sshamath slave quest, though in my own mind I RP'd that she didn't kill them, but instead was rp-wise warning them that others would be coming for them. *sigh*

I seldom do quests. But when I do I do so ic. I personally get more xp from rp and don't really understand why people feel it is the only way to level up. *rolls eyes *

My guess... people do them because running quests once a week is the fastest xp/min on the server - especially if you have access to haste and invisibility /greater sanctuary.

RPing things you see in game is not shaming and if you are ashamed of what you have done IC then perhaps you should stop insulting people for differing opinions and labeling their characters based on preconceived notions despite never having RPed with them in your life. I am just saying it is rather rude and has no place on the server or in game. I use to have a ton of respect for you by the way until you started with underhanded insults on the forum out of the blue. So go ahead and label me whatever insult you want.

Keep it civil, folks.

You're entitled to your opinion. You're not entitled to insult others for having their opinion.

This is the first warning.

Not only have I never completed the imp quest with any character I have ever had ever, even my neutral ones, I absolutely call people out if I see them helping the imp. And I also spread the word that such and such person was seen aiding the cause of evil.

Things your character does are not always IC/RP actions, but they are ALWAYS RP opportunities, and whether or not those actions become RP isn't up to you alone, but also up to other players present.

This is the whole reason when I PVP with friends for fun we have to explain to anyone that wanders by that we are just sparring or practicing. Everyone who is present has a decision to make as to whether or not they RP act on what they see.
