Without monk/sacred levels your unarmed strikes would hurt like mosquito, no matter high strong you are and what kind of power attack you are using.

The only alternative is to go bear warrior, but its not fist attack anymore.

Fist-only build without these three classes are doable, but weak. there is simply no way to make them good.

If you just want a fun build for RPing, go for it. If you want a build that can hold its own, and be remotely decent, just give up

Power attack does not work on one-handed weapons... i tested it myself several months ago, it actually lowered my ab more then it should have and gave me no damage bonus. When i asked why this was they told me its cause power attack is only for 2-handers?

This sounded odd so I tested it.
Power attack works fine for one-handed weapons. It does NOT work for light weapons.

Tested it with a mace...

Halfling or gnome can power attack with light weapons. All other races can not.

You will be severely gimped if you make unarmed character without Monk levels. Especially so as a Barbarian which is a poor class in a mechanical sense as well.

I'd rather alter the weapon choice to something like club, mace or similar bludgeoning weapon, or just go full Monk.

Personally i see barbarian as not a fighter nor rogue. It is a unique class with unique abilities ( rage, DR ) and so It makes sense to build around those, if a barbarian is what you need. For your specific concept there is a PRC - Fist of the forest. I would build around that. Like this - http://nwn2db.com/build/?238275

So CON21 for epic dr9, resulting in a whooping 16DR. Forget shields, these are for fighters. Go two handed and use your DR, high HP as defence. Investing in heal can also help to use those healkits.

Fist of the Forest puts your BASE CON as AC, so there is no need for armors. You also get +1d6 on damage and more importantly your fists count as magic for bypassing DR.

The most important thing is raging. High CON ensures longer rages. If the staff finally do something about meleers as well, maybe you will be able to fit Epic rage in there too. FEral Trance will give a small boost to AB as well for when soloing bosses.

Now that is an unarmed barbarian.

That is all a lot of information to take in, and it seems like everyone is pretty mixed on their opinions on what would be a viable option. That being said, the reason I choose barbarian and FB was purely from a role play stance. I didn't think any other classes would really fit the character concept.

To clarify, the concept is to have a half orc who fights with no weapon. He's a character who simply likes to brawl and test his own might. I've never been fond of taking a deity and playing according to those restrictions, but that's only because I'm afraid I'd fudge it up somehow. If someone has an idea for the build that doesn't involve Barb/FB that would make sense from a rp stance, I'm all ears.

I just never thought Monk was an option. I can't see a lawful character being the character type I'm looking to play.

I'm game to look at fully fleshed out builds involving a half orc who punches stuff though. But I'm not into the bear warrior build. Don't want to polymorph.

Half Orc of Malar: 18 Fighter/5 Frenzied Berserker/4 Rogue/3 Fist of the Forest

I completely ignored the FoTF AC bonus and wore full plate. You get a xp penalty at lv 17+ but it's not huge deal since you're a ECL 0 race. When you get expose weakness at lv 21 you can use enhanced improved power attack full time. Build ends with 31 STR+3 STR item. You can even throw on a tower shield when needed with luck of the heroes, +3 from tumble, max survival and/or listen, 15 UMD-2CHA. I started with 20 Str, 9 Dex, 13 Con, 14 Int, 8 Wis, 6 Cha.

Never actually tested this so you have exclusive rights :p

Barb23/fighter4/fist of the forest3 would probably do fine.

I really wish we had some sort of brawler class, maybe as a base class or prestige class. I know there is the monk class, but that restricts the character to being a lawful alignment and I just can't bring myself to play a lawful character. I'm far to frightened of screwing it up and being yelled at for doing it wrong.

Anyway, I don't know enough about Fist of the forest from a rp standpoint. I haven't even looked into the class honestly. Are they some kind of order?

Yes, but you could probably do something better with the last 3 levels than Barbarian, e.g. AK/WoD.

Rogue, maybe. Opens for skillset early and gets evasion (and thus expose weakness). And you'd be able to avoid XP penalty.

On the other hand, Barb23 gets another epic feat. That can be nice.

It should be barbarian24. The point of going over 20 with barbarian is for the extra DR. Equip a couple X%slashing immunity items and laugh at the server mobs ( and bosses ).
