90% of the useful, powerful and/or unique items my toons have/use were not found, either.

The majority of Items were given to me by other Players. Next, are Items I bought at auction through amassing coin through selling items either given to me, that were useage-wise worthless and sold to the NPC merchants in masse, or sold to some Player that thought they were a good fit and were willing to pay lots for it. At the bottom are the Items that were DM rewards, not bottom in quality—they are some of the best—but the least that I have "collected" over the many years.

I can't but agree that the RIG doesn't produce good stuff. But then again, I rarely if ever loot Bosses, and from what I can tell, constantly fighting Bosses and looting their treasure is really the only way to make the RIG pay out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: OOC relationships are the best payout for getting good stuff on BGTSCC.

Beat the living hell out of a black dragon. Got a +4 1d4 cold longsword, felt great about it.

The Remove Curse Scroll I found was cursed

The best item I have ever seen was +4 AC, +4 Con, +3 fort boots. I identified them on my wizard for the player so I know they were a legit random drop. Finding an item with +4 of any attribute is a bit like winning the lottery while getting struck by lightning while getting a return on a timeshare investment. Some people spend thousands of hours lootgrinding for it. Other people make due with +3 gear backed up by RP.

Surely max does not need those boots?

i have decent gear, not top tier though. but yeah, basically treasure hunting, selling said treasure and then buying what you actually want. when it comes to end game gear, it's very very rare that i actually found it myself.
