Invoker wrote:A couple of questions:

-) Why would you think a Rogue without HiPS is more of an RP build with respect to a Rogue with it?
It's an example, because I've yet to see a sneak without HiPS. It's like almost all sneak oriented characters require it to be survivable. Making a sneak oriented character without it would be quite a challenge, and in some cases more fitting to a character.
Invoker wrote:-) When you say limit multiclass to a minimum, what is your thought process? (for instance, not only the classes you mentioned, but also Warlock, Monk, Cleric and Ranger for instance are very strong pure and keep improving level after level, whereas there is little point for a Fighter, Sorcerer or Spirit Shaman to stay pure)
The point of this is to prevent people from taking classes due to them being stronger that way. Sure, pure fighter isn't that strong, but some fighters are really just that . . . a fighter. The point of it is that you take classes and feats purely because it fits the toon and the RP. Not because of the mechanical gains.

He's taken v taken vows of nonviolence, chastity and poverty so he uses all his gold on healing kits (starting gold) and depends on church support to fund his mission of a wandering healer. Wears only unenchanted robes. No weapons. His mechanical strength is his healing skill focus and his cleric spells for easing suffering. Level two was gained purely by RP XP. And most of level three. Being strongly role focused means he is dependant on a team. That lines me up with constant RP which is nice.

A challenge to play. an enjoyable challenge at that.
That is the idea behind this. Act according to character, and not according to the setting. Build after the character you've created, and not after the setting your in.

And there's nothing wrong with that :) As long as the idea behind the build is fitting, and choices are not made with mechanical strength in mind.

I wish to add, there are no truths in here. This is based on my opinion of what could be awesome. Perhaps, if people are interested, we can set up rules for this, and make a list of people who are in, so that you can find other people to RP with who are also in it with the same mindset.
Like I said before, I'm open to suggestions and ideas!

Depends on if Retraining/Rebuilding as defined by Players Handbook II is allowed by the DMs. These options are intended to be available to represent a character willfully choosing to replace choices they've made previously through dedicated retraining. In that sense, optimizing a build as time goes on by eliminating bad choices and taking new ones is still in-character.

At least according to the options presented in PHBII, character builds are not supposed to be entirely set in stone.

In either case, for Retraining or Rebuilding, it's supposed to be dictated by in-character developments. Taking the time, effort, and gold to Retrain, or going on dedicated quests for Rebuilding. Not something that's adjusted just at the drop of a hat.
