I'd like to clarify that.

"Immersion breaking" happens when someone tries to treat rules as law, and expects magical universe to be completely logical.

Majority of things from D&D universe simply cannot exist in our world. So, when you start analyzing them, you'll break immersion for yourself. Which is why I recommend to go with the flow instead of overanalyzing other characters. If you see someone changing classes, you could always ASK how they did that. In-character.

The game world has it's own logic, with gaps sure, but there are things which are pretty obvious.

Well... apart from the Paladin-FS example, all of those complaints seem quite logical for me.

Again, I have to repeat, this is not me saying how you should RP, this is strictly my personal opinion.

I don't think it is overanalysation to call a high dex warlock changing to a high wis druid and then a high int wizard somewhat immersion breaking. :P

Are people actually doing this?

Are people really playing a cleric for years, then RcR and suddenly they are a druid? Then the next day they decided it would be cool if their PC was a bard? This, while maintaining the same character and not creating a brand new PC? I get the feeling that any established character would not fall in to this category. I can't recall anyone who made any major changes that did not have some extensive RP behind it.

I get the feeling that this is a case of "people focus on negatives and suddenly everything is that way". I have RcRd Aaron a couple of times since the 100% became allowed. His build hasn't changed drastically, mostly moving some points around in skills, since there were so many changes to that, as well as looking at and trying, then eventually choosing some of the RP spells that are available (GASP! I know, a FS/paladin 'cheese build' that chose a dozen RP spells rather than spells purely for power! How outlandish!)

If someone does something ridiculous, like suddenly change their profession to one that would take years and years of natural and learned ability to become, then they are not invested in RPing on the server. If that is the case, why RP with them and then become all miffed over it? Just ignore them, since they aren't invested in furthering RP, obviously. Then, if you really want to help the player be a better RPer and more involved in the server, send them a nice tell informing them that you would prefer not to RP with them under the circumstance. This way, those that do fall under the OP will know and can adjust to help them and others have more fun.

Then you might want to put me on the list of people not to rp with cause i am not on this server to further the cause of rp. I enjoy rp and do it alot but that's not the reason i am on this server and i don't care much for people saying one MUST rp or they are unwelcome and to be ignored... that is just plain discrimination. I am on this server because it is the largest, most heavily populated, and active server for nwn2. Rp is on my list of things desired but its not a top priority. Honestly if say Haven was the largest server around i would be playing there... not because i want or care about erp but because that would be the best place to play. Size, population, and customization are the top priorities... everything else is secondary.

Are you one of the people claiming people change classes constantly through RcR? Sinxe that was who the post was geared towards. Plus, if you aren't worried about RP, since you said it was low on your list of reasons to play on the server, then why would you care if people ignored you? Seems like you want it both ways.

I do not remember this happening. I do rememebr two characters that underwent significant class changes, but that took months, and one of them was struggling with mechanics (can't blame him).

Yup. Quite possible.
sweetlikesplenda wrote: Just ignore them, since they aren't invested in furthering RP,
That's not a good attitude.

Don't ignore them. Instead start asking them how they did that. And where is that druid that knows "reincarnate" spell.
V'rass wrote:people saying one MUST rp
One must rp. This is a roleplaying server. By acting out of character you'll ruin fun for other people, and can be eventually kicked out.

That's just how it is. If you want to interact with "the largest community", play by the rules of the community.

Here are the rules: http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36831
This is a Role-play Server set in the Forgotten Realms campaign world. Please respect the setting and stay in-character (IC). You can go out-of-character (OOC) if there is need for clarifications, or if you wouldn't be disturbing role-play around you by doing so (please mark your OOC speech by placing either (( , // or ooc: before or behind it).

Yes, but why is the most heavily populated and active server desirable to you? The only logical answer is that you wish to interact with other players. As NWN2 is a role playing game and BGTSCC is a roleplaying server, then surely you must recognise that interacting necessarily will involve roleplaying?

First off i did not say one should not rp or act out of character constantly. I do lots of rp even though that is not my focus and i always try to act as my character would if he were real. I have had several people compliment me on the quality of my rp... usually referring to the more comedic stuff i do.

However discriminating against the partial rp crowd, the grinders, the action junkies, and the pvp nuts is not only unfair but it will ultimately drive them away and make the server less populated and respected. I have seen this same pattern many times... where rp supremacists eventually take over a thriving server and by punishing those who are not fully interested in rp end up driving people away and turning that thriving server into a ghost town. There are tons of dead rp servers for both Neverwinter nights games and they almost all died because of what i just described.

I don't wish to see that same folly repeated here yet already the process has begun. It may only be just starting now but left unchecked it will destroy BG just like all the other dead servers that came before it. I only hope such does not come to pass.

A "medium RP" server is still an RP server. Like it or not, it's a requirement and highlighting that, and having it enforced when needed, isn't exactly discrimination (since otherwise BG may as well be an action server). As you yourself have shown, though, BG is still a medium RP server and you can get away with roleplaying stuff that would get you snubbed in a more "hardcore RP" server.

At the very worst, the roleplaying's just a formality, so extend it as you would extend a hello. Most players would at least accept the courtesy.

Also, I can say from personal experience that usually server populations implode due to player-related drama, of which "RP elitism" is one such type, but not necessarily the only cause.

It's a medium RP server, but still RP server on the lighter side. You can of course go and have your character ignore everyone IC for many any reasons. It's still interaction since we all expect to play out our characters IC if not specified by (( or other means. Our character IC actions have IC concequences is something said here time time. I guess it boils down to wheter you treat your character sheet IC thing or OOC presentation of mechanical things. For me classes, stats, abilities and skills are IC actions from characters past and present and thus concequences of his choices. Others might not think this way not so much and frankly it's just fine. For me it is part of the fun and a sense of acomplisment.

So aren't the ability to alter them at will without sensible IC measure in a way same as going your way walking around in the PW and doing things out of character without concequences.

It's by no means a serious thing for immersion since players can't see others sheets. I very much to go with the flow. I guess I'm just one of those people that take rules too seriously in a game.

So maybe the server rules are like the pirate codex... They are more like guidelines anyway. That might just be fine in a place which tries it's best to please all kind of players and does good job in it.

At the moment, I do not see this happening there.
People with different interests at least tolerate each other.

However, anyone who'll start treating the world as an MMO and will go around speaking OOC with no brackets should be reported and kicked out if they don't change their behavior.
V'rass wrote: yet already the process has begun.
That sounds like paranoia to me.

It is not even that hard to make basic character personality, so I just don't see why that could possibly be a problem.

i am really sad to read this... it is a witch hunt, for only a 2-3 people that could be easily reported if one cant find a way to track those abuses, to come with such a harsh solve.

My last RCR was due a bug that got me stuck in the Fugue, after 3 attempts to contact DMs i;ve given up and used the RCR (guys were busy with various things, none is blaming them).

RCR is just a nice tool to have for one to enjoy his character even more, it is insanity to ask someone who is 30 to become 20 for just a minor tweak, that wont affect or disturb anyone but these hypocrite zealots.

Ehem.

Personally I support 100% RcR in cases of minor tweaks, perma death, bugs etc.

I just don't like when someone does not RP their sheets at all.
