Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
Oi vey. Building a Chronomancer just got a tad bit more difficult in the mechanics department: Chronomancer sourcebook states: "A chronomancer must have an minimum of 17 Intelligence...A minimum of 16 Wisdom is required as well...."
There are also "kits" for the Chronomancer, which are even more "painful" for the build, especially because the supposed benefits are not nor will ever be implemented on BG.
Guide: min 17 Wisdom.
Historian: min 17 Wisdom.
Seer: min Charisma 14 or better.
Traveler: any Chronomancer can be a Traveler.
That's gonna be a power killer!!
As well, Chronomancers are not permitted to use spells or spell-items from the opposition schools of: abjuration, conjuring and necromancy. Ouch. But I think I will have to forgo this "requirement" because there are no Chronomancy school spells available on BGTSCC, atm. And as it appears, the Chonomancy school would provide alternative spells that are lost when eschewing those three Schools listed above.
Though I'm still very much interested in Counterspelling, I am still weighing that focus against a focus on abjuration/divination/transmutation, which I think does fit the Chronomancer better. Obviously, dropping the Counterspell focus would free up for Epic Spell Focuses and maybe some more INT, which helps with DCs. But considering Divination spells are more often countered by Spell Resistance, the Epic Spell Penetration combined with a CL of 33 would be rather stellar.
If anyone has opinions about Counterspelling in general, or it's actual practical/mechanical game play, I'd like to hear it before I invest.
Anyway, I've come to this, then:

Ooh! Good idea...very "time travel-y." Don't know if any of my builds would meet the reqs, but a stellar idea.chambordini wrote:If you're going monk, you better be going with Ki step steve.

Im away from my pc and cant remember if there are reqs or not.Moltrazahn wrote:What are the requirements for ki-step? ... and what does it actually do?
As for what it does, you use one use of your stunning fist ( which gets refunded back to you if you dont use it after a short amount of time) and you basically port wherever you want and can ordinarily get to (in the same area).
It reminds me of a Blink Dog if used repeatedly. Its a great and fun feat.
Edit: besides movement, its great for "stepping" to casters followed with a knockdown or stunning fist or even quivering palm before they can get a spell out

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
prerequisites: stunning fist, dex 13, wis 13, BaB +6, and it lets you jump in sight to another spot. Very handy sometimes.Moltrazahn wrote:What are the requirements for ki-step? ... and what does it actually do?

Okay, I did the deed and selected the opposition school of Necromancy. But, why does the character sheet still say my wizard is a Generalist? Is this normal?

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
Is General what you picked at character creation? I notice your NWN2db build lists General for the school.
Also, why Abjuration for spell focus? Just RP? There's no spells that benefit from it, so that's a feat that could be freed up if it's not essential for the RP.

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
I choose Divination Abjuration at creation. So you can imagine why I'm asking!
I choose Abjuration because of fulfilling 1/2 of the Arch Mage req. and because of the Character being a master of counterspelling. Thought the mechanics are not supported in the choice, yes, having it on the Character Sheet means something. But whether it truly means something, is left open....

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
Just to double-check: you chose Abjuration as the specialization? Not just the Focus feat? If so, it's looking like it's bugged for you somehow then, because it shouldn't be showing up as General. Might require an RCR to fix. :/

Yeah, that's a shame. I'll try for an RCR to see if I can fix it.

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
You dont need Arcane Spell Power 3 for Archmage with your level loadout.
You can save yourself an 8th? level spell slot. CL32 is where you get +1 DC. The only way to get another +1 is Blood Magus.
Right now you are CL33... which doesn't help you with your already weak DCs. More utility to help balance things out.

If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.

Re: Trying again: The Chronomancer
Hi,
Yes, 33CL does nothing but add 1 point for Duration. Of course, that could be a round/10 minutes/hour/etc. Quite possibly not worth a whole Epic and/or Arch Mage feat.
Oh, btw...the build I referenced in this post earlier is a waaaaaay old build. I've optimized it much more since then. Sorry! But all great feedback. Thanks to everyone.
