A Farewell from Alexander Marshall!

Hey guys,

In typical BGTSCC fashion, I've received an outpouring of support from you all. Between the PMs, posts, and tells IG it's been a very positive day. I'm not sure of my direction, really. It's been something I've had to really examine and consider today. I wanted to take some time and thank everyone for the support, and place my mindset out there for you guys, so that perhaps I can move beyond it.

I left this server three years ago. Most of you know that, some of you aren't familiar, and that's okay. A lot happens in three years. Failures and triumphs, changes and challenges. I understand, and I didn't exactly expect life to just pick back up where I left it. These last three weeks have been stressful. The drama on the server is real, and there's a very real divide between some of our community that can draw out toxicity, and strife. I've been privvy to quite a bit of it, lately. It was pretty easy to burn out. There's a lot of hostility, and harassment. Sometimes, I think people forget that while we're all RPing, we all still have very real feelings.

We invest ourselves here. We all, as a community, choose to invest our time, and our hearts into a community that, at least for me, is one of the last bastions of pure roleplay you can find. Maybe I'm delusional, and perhaps this post in and of itself will be picked apart, and blasted by those of you that feel the need to. It's okay. Our hearts are here, and they are just as capable of fury as they are of love and acceptance. Is BGTSCC perfect? No. But we all still come, and put ourselves out there, and build something of this place. I guess that what's really important to me right now is to remember that we're all people. Flawed, sensitive people that, even in RP, put ourselves forward and invest. Be mindful of the person behind the character. IC disdain should never blur into Out-of-character strife, and if you allow it to do so, then you're honestly part of the problem. We can be enemies, and still maintain a social accord, and respect what each one of us brings to the table. Harassing others just lessens our community.

Light would be much dimmer without darkness to remind us of its splendor. Shadows cannot exist without light, and peace isn't nearly as fun to RP as strife, and conflict. Let's remember why we're all here, and cut out the drama and just enjoy the place we've built for ourselves. I'm not going to let the drama beat me. I hope none of you do either.

I'm not sure what my next step is, but due to this outpouring, and a better perspective, maybe it's not time for Alexander to say goodbye. I don't want to hide from the minority at the expense of the majority. Thank you to everyone that coached me, and helped me put my head on straight. This place is very dear to me, and perhaps it's time I started being vocal about it myself.

I totally get it. I had a similar revelation this evening, when Ali was rude to someone. I had to make amends almost immediately. You never know what the person on the other side is going through. This may be the breath in their lungs. I get it. I hope that I can continue to grow and develop throughout and remember that kindness doesn't hurt. It just may make someone else's day.
