Re: Favored Soul Wings
It doesn't need to provide Fly. Other things that are supposed to provide Fly don't on the server (like Gaseous Form), because it's not something that can be adequately used here.
I say remove Haste, add Wings with a movement speed bonus, and that's all. Even on the MotB campaign, with characters who actually had wings, those characters said they couldn't use them to fly but it did allow them to move faster.

if characters started having wings and tails, i'd feel like i was in sigil, rather than the sword coast

Re: Favored Soul Wings
well the issue there is nwn vs pnp
in pnp wings grant the ability to fly, hence why it would only be able to be done in events with a DM and the movement speed increase would be there for the nwn bonus
and if i remember right they already ok'd rping you have a cosmetic tail, there are no models for one tho; the only real difference between the two is tails are racial that dont really do anything and the wings are granted from a class feature that actually have a use

Re: Favored Soul Wings
It is time to practice archery I think, and to build narrow doors.
I'm not sure how common winged humanoids are supposed to be in the Sword Coast, I thought they were exceedingly rare to the point of not being seen ? Unless they're somehow common I'd rather stay away from wings because we would always need a serious suspension of disbelief each time a winged PC would walk in a town like a random person.
As of now favored souls are not markedly different from regular humanoids but give them wings and they would inevitably draw even more attention than a fire genasi... unless lore wise those things are normal, but I read nothing pointing towards that.

Re: Favored Soul Wings
well as far as rarity you would have half dragons, 20th level FS and 10th level dragon disciples for humanoids with wings that i can think of
half dragons obviously are not gonna be seen, 20th level FS there are apparently a dime a dozen of those which alone would blow wings being rare out of the water
and then 10th dragon disciple lore wise is probably way more common than FS (what its suppose to be) because of various draconic cults
but lore wise yes it would be normal for a FS, its just that FS is suppose to be rare itself

This. And Sigil has spent countless development hours fine-tuning mechanisms to permanently apply them to characters alongside all the tinting and persistence issues wings and tails cause. Better that the devs & DMs don't waste their time with the endless bugs and fixes that adding RP wings will imply.Blame The Rogue wrote:if characters started having wings and tails, i'd feel like i was in sigil, rather than the sword coast

Re: Favored Soul Wings
I am against this as there is no in game mechanics to simulate flying. This -WILL- lead to arguments. Not to mention it will just make even more people roll favored souls.

Re: Favored Soul Wings
If you guys think they must fly, and my suggestion of giving them +5 tumble is not enough, maybe give them some minor teleport addition (like shadow jump) from one of the feats we already have and call it minor flight usable once a day.
In all honesty, I am against true flight. I think we should change the class description in general, but flight is really a DM call here in my opinion.

Re: Favored Soul Wings
shadow jump was one of my original suggestions, but now that it works it really wouldnt make sense to use for wings
and im not sure how the tumble is suppose to even translate? tumbling around is the last thing someone with wings is really gonna be doing
if people are so against it tho i would suggest removing them all together because there would be no way to enforce such a limited use of them then
wings is a bit of an all or nothing

Re: Favored Soul Wings
Tumble is the closest mechanical thingy I could think of that would give them an extra edge that leaping to and fro kind of can do. 5 tumble is better than giving them dodge, right?
Any other ideas then?

Re: Favored Soul Wings
20% Movement speed. That's it. That's all it needs. That's all wings give in the NWN2 campaign where they featured. Just like pnp Favored Soul wings, Half-Celestial wings gave fly in pnp. So as NWN2 made it just 20% move speed for HC wings, FS wings, if added, should be no different.Eclypticon wrote:Tumble is the closest mechanical thingy I could think of that would give them an extra edge that leaping to and fro kind of can do. 5 tumble is better than giving them dodge, right?

Re: Favored Soul Wings
that's a big jump IMO... Barbarian, Bodyguard and Ranger (outdoors) get 10%. Monks more or less depending on how much they focus on the class. Perhaps if it was somehow limited to x times per day, but otherwise I don't think Favored Souls need a speed boost (or any other added perks). Losing haste makes up for it, but theoretically the wings would get tired yes? Going from 50% movement increase (plus other haste benefits) 9 minutes for a lvl 30 pure FS to 20% movement increase all the time seems maybe like a bad idea as they just become even faster loot grinders.Rhifox wrote:20% Movement speed

Re: Favored Soul Wings
well tumble and flight are not exactly the same thing
tumble helps you avoid things, you cant exactly dodge a lot of stuff while flying, its simply extra movement and if anything you would gain penalties to avoid based on maneuverability - normal flight is usually just point A to point B type stuff, acrobatic maneuvers (tight flight movements) require you to take feats and in the case of dragons its those feats which are their bread and butter to why they are so dangerous in the air, strafing a village with dragon breath? thats not something they can actually do without taking a feat for it, but given most all dragons love doing that it is obviously one of the must have feats to a dragon
even the movement speed increase doesnt make sense depending on how strict you wanna get with it because the flight speed -is- normal land speed, but a slight increase to movement speed is not that big of a deal when there are no flight mechanics
haste is overkill to represent wings because of how much haste actually does, wings do not make you 50% faster, increase your AC or give you extra attacks per round

I have an idea, how about we just delete the wing models off the server entirely and forget this ever happened?

Re: Favored Soul Wings
For once I agree with Boddynock. I don't think FS need anything else to make them the favored snowflake build of the server. If they start flying around, I might have a seizure.
