Yeah, but what are the odds that you would be surprised by it anyway? Torture doesn't happen randomly, you can see things like that coming and excuse yourself, if it comes down to it.

DM events. Two things on a PG13 server.
1. They involve lots of people
2. They involve server-wide shouts
Can't see how it would work.

I voted no because this would mean the young players would not be able to participate in DM events anymore.

Some graphic violence, descriptions, torture etc., can help, but they don't need to overly linger on such things. Erotics also seem to bring nothing to the table, IMO, and just shouldn't be used.

Although these opinions might seem somehow contradictory, +1 to both. Let me explain: for me it's OK to introduce new more mature themes, but they don't need to be explained in detail. As Boddynock said:
Boddynock wrote:Generally things like that tend to work better when they AREN'T overused anyway. makes them more memorable.
To put an example, a party can enter the gnoll lair and listen some shouts of pain findind a person being tortured. They draw the weapons and save the victim. This is OK. But, if we enter into the details of the torture itself... no thanks, it is unnecesary.
What I mean is that what makes the difference is the
detail of description. IMO this affects the PG rating too.

Allowing a thing does not mean that suddenly all events will be darker or more descriptive. I wager most events, particularly the larger ones, will stay lass so to be more accessible.

I understand that idea....... I just think it's WAY too fine of a line to cross. What is "acceptable details" for one person/DM is sure to be over the line with somebody else.
Nope, leave it as is......the rapidly shrinking NWN2 community can't afford to exclude even
more players from events.

I'd rather not, I would opt out and IC wise it would have to be a pretty weird justification, fade to black works well.

I could say the same thing about some RP I don't enjoy much(elves comes to my mind

). Various people prefer various RP.

When I was DMing for BGTSCC, I used many adult themes in my event(s). And it isn't like violence in terms of racial genocide and bloodshed aren't daily experiences on BGTSCC—just join a Party in Xvarts!!
There is a difference between adult themes/content and gratuitous descriptions, as well, the issue of "forced" experience of any one persons (dark) fantasy.
As a DM, I tried to "check in" with the Players often, to gauge their comfort level. I think what it comes down to is a responsibility in the DM game master and the interest+ willingness of the Players, which should be, somehow, communicated beforehand.
Like Thorsson mentions indirectly, the breadth of interest of Players on BGTSCC is such that similar interests combined with healthy/unhealthy gaming practices, needs to be managed properly, and this often falls on the shoulders of the DM Team...but Players should be helpful and try and balance out common interests in Role-play (within limits, like Teen rules, which are a good thing overall!).

I think the DM's are more than capable to gauge whether its appropriate for that event or not.
I would say a event I had recently with a DM was above the pg13, but he also gave us the changes out outs or opting out at many stages through the event as it got a bit darker and worse.
Again I am still confused why we are a pg13 in a realm like this, but thats a seperate topic all together.
DM's as far as I have seen make some great events whether its pg13 or not, is it needed? Not sure, should the DM's be allowed to use it? Yes, if they feel it enhances the event or the people gathered I am all for it.

i voted no. all the previous posts have stated the reasons well enough
i do find it odd, that most of the posters say no, yet somehow, yes is leading in the voting. alt accts skew polls?

I've been in a very dark / macabre event before that I requested to opt out of when it got a bit much for me.. the DM here at the time even helped me with formulating a way to exit the event without harming my character or story so I was very happy with that.
The rating ... hmm, I'm really not sure yet. I clicked yes because I know it happens now anyway... whether on purpose by accident or happenstance or whatever. I think of my kids who are around the pg13 age and I probably would not want them in those events, or some of the ones I've been in, in the past here.

I thought they couldn't change the rating due to USA server and fear of lawyers. If I'm right I selfishly rather have the server in the US.
