That sounds tough and wow 33 ab! That gives me a very good basis on how and by when I should progress my AC. What's the range on save dcs to be ok by 20?
I still play in posting a summary of areas by CR; but couldn't figure out how to create a table in the forum coding. I may do this in Google and share it or maybe on the wiki if I can figure that out.

45 AC for your 20s or so. Really you need 50 AC end game.

Higher AC fro events and adventuring. Though much less for levelling if you have regen and good damage. 40-45 was well enough for me all along, but better have ability to quickly raise it by ten or so by equipping shield and expertise, in case spawns become really good.

Just grind areas with a lower CR than you can manage. Boring, but you won't have to worry about the RNG screwing you over.
I just got critted several times in 4 rounds by a couple of monsters that can only hit me on a natural 20. A couple thousand XP gone. It's not worth the risk when due to RealLife(TM) it can take a week of grinding to get that back.
Yes I'm bitter.

Speaking of areas by level...
Visited the north to see some of the newer areas.
I came to a charming little halfling village where the people spoke of Darkhold and some Orcs in the mountains nearby.
That sounded like an interesting traveling adventure so up the mountain I went.
I ran into a band of orcs on the hills side.
Three orcs in the band to be precise.
An archer and two barbarians (I think they were).
Attack bonus 51 and a truckload of following attacks was what I gathered before I had to retreat.
That is an insane increase in challenge rating from the surrounding areas.
Is this to keep strangers out of the Darkhold territories?
Or is this just a new high end epic hunting ground?
Lovely areas nearby by the way.
Loved the Forest of Wyrms and the Black Puddles certainly were a challenge for a lone Rapier striking Swashbuckler.
But is was a lot of fun and great variety in the monsters spawning.
My heart jumped the first time I saw a serpent. They are HUGE!

Spawn rate is around the same I think as the Nagas in Serpent Hills. I know the ogres near Corm Op are in a pretty good spawn rate.

I know of the area your talking aboutm I died there due to them. I was out exploring one day and bam 40 damage another 2 hits and I was down.
And yes....it's a bit odd that it's right outside this little mountain village.
