Hera - But I can not unsee your rp. I have to see your player to player slavery, and that is the difference in all these topics. Your rp does not exist in a personal bubble. While you dont have to play an Elf Rogue, seeing one is not crossing the line.
Empoweredfan - Now, you might say truthfully, that you know how to do that. How it can be fun for everyone involved. That you have done so successfully before. This might all be true. But can you claim confidence in others to do the same? To respect and protect the fun for other people roleplaying a slave or slaver? A lot will say yes to all of this, but how many would be able to do so truthfully, until one have tried both situations? Slave and Slave master?
Folks, stop quoting examples as none of them relate in truth solely to slavery RP, just bad RP in general. Its bad form to drop arrows on the floor containing OOC info, but we do not respond by banning all players from dropping arrows on the floor. We do not respond to bad RP from some by banning the mechanic that caused it from all. Instead we try to educate.
PG-13 AND PEER PRESSURE, this ends the discussion for me, no need for any more examples. Slavery was not banned because of examples of bad RP, it was banned for this, I hope, and only this. End of. I am happy with that.
Re the lore questions EP, just for clarification the very link you provided actually states the same info, there are
13,385 slaves in Sshamath, 6% of them are human (Only 1% off the free population are human, by comparison).
So half the population of Sshamath are slaves, they are everywhere. Also, to quote your source in detail:
"In most places such a market would consist of many tents and cages but in a city full of wizards it is housed in ONE BUILDING. Magical glyphs an each side try to encourage passants to buy one or more slaves. The slaves are held in magical clearstones, where they are magically shrunk to get into the fist sized cubes and can be easily stored in the shelves". So not a tent, and magic is used to promote the buying and selling of slaves, and magic is also used so all the slaves for sale can fit into one building. Pretty harsh really, being magically shrunk into a fist sized cube until you are sold.
Regarding the the Forgotten Realms website its generally focused on 5e and later time periods, so unless I can date the info it gives I tend to use it as a guide, rather than source.
As for my own source re the lore I've posted, it was the
D&D 3.5 Forgotten Realms - Underdark Handbook.
Another interesting point, even from the forgotten realms website, is that many Duergar are sold into Indentured Servitude by their families in Sshamath, but they are not listed as a race under Slaves. In other words there is a difference between Indentured Service and slavery, just saying
