Re: Black screen freeze
Ok, I was running some quests for over an hour and no freeze. I rolled back my video driver to the previous one, maybe that was the culprit. Only time will tell I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the replies and advice, much appreciated.

Grrr...scratch that. Just logged in and it froze again between transition loading screen...BAM! Black screen frozen solid. Rolling back driver didn't fix this.

Re: Black screen freeze
Here is an update of my black screen freeze problem. First thing is, it isn't resolved at all. The amount of things I have tried, googled, read on different forum is ridiculous. My wife always says I'm a stubborn person....guess that is why I have been trying to fix this problem for weeks now. But I'm at the end of my patience and wasted so much time on this. If I can't get this fixed this weekend I am done with this game for good. This is the only game that has this issue. Here are a list of things I have tried(probably more things that I can no longer remember)
-Of course installed client extension(tried many times with it and without it)
-made sure all the proper Direct X files were installed
-messed around with different .ini settings
-changed the affinity of my duel core CPU to single
-ran Avast
-made sure drivers all up to date
-rolled back video driver to a date the game was stable
-Edited Host file
-messed with sound settings and different video settings
-clean uninstall of everything Neverwinter 2 and reinstalled (multiple times)
-ran tests on my GPU, ssd drives, ram and CPU
-cleaned registry and tinkered with some things there
-clean install of Windows 10
-clean reinstall of Windows 7, after no change in bloated Windows 10
-the inside of my laptop is clean as whistle and applied new thermal paste to CPU and GPU (temperatures are fine)
-reinstalled NWN2 again...zzz...and now back to where I started 3 weeks ago
(after all of this I decided to see if single player works...and yes it does. Played for 2 hours and no problems. I haven't tried any other servers yet because I have only played on this one.)
So, that is where I'm at. I really wanted to have some good RPing again here and try some of the new classes but...grrr..
Here are my computer specs. She is a little old, but still more than capable to run NWN2.
I can run a heavily modded Skyrim(not enhanced edition)on medium settings smoothly.

Re: Black screen freeze
Did you try to uninstall your nvidea drivers completely ? Sometimes leftovers mess things up.
http://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewt ... ?f=5&t=776
Then reboot and install a new display driver from a scratch.
And make sure that DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) is also installed.

Re: Black screen freeze
Yes and yes more than a few times. I'm starting think it is not a NWN2 issue since single player seems to work fine. Downloading Kingdom of Haven files now, to see if it happens on another server or just this one. Locks my pc up totally, black screen, music still playing...can't alt+tab, can't ctrl+alt+delete to task manger...nothing but hard reset from the power button.

Re: Black screen freeze
Have you tried the windows key + P combination on your comp when it happens? In Windows 7, the key combination Win+P toggles through projector only, no projector, mirror, and extend desktop.
While I have Windows 10, I have this black screen problem occuring only with NWN2. It seems based on search possible also with 7.

Re: Black screen freeze
I'll flag your post to some of the people I think very highly of, in terms of their technical expertise; but if nothing's working, it may be that you need a new graphics card entirely. You can run NWN2 on pretty much any old computer, so buying a cheap laptop for NWN2 and travel or something might not be an entirely bad idea (if you really, really want to get back into this game).
If you are able to log into other servers without issue, please let us know, as I'm not sure why that would be.

Re: Black screen freeze
Enable vsync and stay in full screen mode at the lowest settings possible with no other applications running in the background. If this was procured via Steam, disable the Steam overlay.

Re: Black screen freeze
Yes, I have tried win+p, still locked up solid.
Yes, I have tried v-sync on/off, lowest graphic setting/highest graphic setting/everything in between...over and over.
Ran different stress tests on my video card, all seems fine. Other more graphic intense games run fine. NWN2 single player seems fine. (at least for a couple of hours without any issue) Usually this freeze happens...hmmm I would say 70% during transitioning areas/30% random on this server.
I stopped playing for awhile after the seemingly never-ending ddos attacks on the server. Now it has been well over a year since I played on this server regularly, many things have seemed to change on the server. New content, classes and even new forum website address. (I remember it being bgtscc.com) I'm not sure if any of that is relevant or not. Or my area ip address in Taiwan, though I met Australians playing before on this server...they are somewhat close. lol I'm sorry if I am a bit frustrated with this issue and thanks to everyone for the input. Still seems to be a helpful community here and going strong.
It is a long weekend here because Monday is Children's Day and Tuesday is Tomb Sweeping Day...or maybe it is Monday Tomb Sweeping Day and Tuesday is Children's day...hmm. Guess it doesn't matter, I just know I am not working and that is good enough for me. I'm going to have lunch with my wife and go hiking. Get some of that healing nature to clear my head. Tackle this issue when I come back. Try playing on a different server and see if it freezes. That is my next step. Anyways...blah...blah lol sorry and thanks again all. Happy Tomb Sweeping/Children's Day or whatever, just enjoy your day/night.

Re: Black screen freeze
Ok...I wish I tried this first 3 weeks ago. I downloaded Kingdom of Haven, and although the atmosphere and play style isn't my cuppa tea, I had no issues freezing. So, that being said...NWN2 on single player and on another server works fine. It seems to only freeze up on me on this server. Please someone help me out. It looks like they put a lot of work into Haven and all...but I don't think the RP there is for me. I want back into Baldur's Gate

Re: Black screen freeze
suggestion
1.
-backup all the data into one external hard disk
-reformat PC
-reinstall everything
-login as a fresh newly installed nwn2
2.
-get a new hard disk
-install new windows inside new hard disk as main
-connect the old hdisk with nwn2
-try play from there

Re: Black screen freeze
There is so much that is being done in BGTSCC that it'd be hard to pinpoint exactly where the problem for one individual is, when the vast majority doesn't have this issue.

Re: Black screen freeze
If you can get your hands on another graphics card (preferably another gen or at least model), try swapping it with yours and completely remove old drivers and install new ones for the new card. Memory sticks is another thing that is easy to swap out, but I would start with the graphics card for this issue.

Re: Black screen freeze
I understand what you are saying Aspect of Sorrow. It is just a bummer I can no longer play on this server. Oh well, it makes me feel somewhat better knowing it works fine on other servers, meaning it isn't a hardware problem. Which matches up with the multiple testing I have done on my SSDs, ram, graphic card and sound card, all came out fine. Though it still baffles my mind on how only playing on this server can freeze up my system, when it used to work fine over a year ago. I guess I will give Realms of Trinity a try for the time being.
