i am unsure if i have to do this when i use a potion or wand though. what about a spell like power from a piece of gear?

That's different. You're just activating an item which often has either a vocal or somantic component. I always enjoy the activation command of "Oh god no help help help help AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

When I first started playing nwn2 10 years ago I was very shy as well, mostly do to being dyslexic. I was surprised how understanding players were. You only meet perhaps one person a year that is a jerk about it. Funny enough I also learned how to type playing this game lol.
