This is why.

DA doesn't like to let people in. Unless you choose to change the laws.
To clarify somewhat, as I do think it's confusing, this law is stating that you can't cross the bridge over the waterfall leading to the deeper parts of the village. You can visit the village without an escort as long as you remain in the appropriate area (anything before the "waterfall bridge") which includes the Blacksmith NPC.

Good to know, I didn't even know this was a rule since there were people inside that greeted me and showed me the way to the blacksmith.

Thanks for this. I appreciate this because when I'm planning my character, end game gear plays an important part in the process. I believe this goes for good portion of the playerbase - otherwise you will end up with non-optimized character.

I assume it is, but trying IC seems like more fun though or the safer route via a surfacer who is willing to buy it for you. There are plenty of surfacers willing to do it for you, just need to find them ;-).

Yes. One of the provisos of affording guilds unique shops was that they'd be available to all players.

As Juramenta says, the best approach is to hire a merchant or agent to purchase the items for you (so that you can generate RP in triplicate for yourself, for the merchant PC, and for the guild you're shopping at -- in this case, Doron Amar). Indeed, the purpose of guild shops is to increase traffic to guild areas, and thereby increase roleplaying opportunities for both guilds and their visitors.

But if you're short on time or don't wish to pursue this route, you can toggle on your AFK tag and quickly do your shopping before exiting the area. This is an entirely out of character act, though, so you shouldn't RP while doing this, and nothing you oversee or hear in RP while visiting in this manner can be used in your own RP (since your character technically isn't there).

And you can't claim your +4 Dex item during your rp because you don't have it. Because you never went there and you didn't find it on a dead body or purchased it through a middle man.

Your character wants the +4 Dex item. Because you the player decided that she does. So just do the rp to get it. Is it really so hard?

Someone with a merchant mind, and authorization to enter Doron Amar enters the city, walks up to the market, and proceeds to speak with the merchant and examine the equipment for sale. After a period of time, he copies down the properties on a scrap of parchment, and then returns to Baldur's Gate, where he posts the scrap of parchment on the bulletin board, along with a note saying that these items are for sale at Doron Amar

Logical. Roleplayed. Maybe not the most...elegant way, but it's done.

Pretty ironic. People were griping about the hell shop merchant's race and location because it was unfair to their RP; now the shoes on the other foot

Its what always happens. Damned if you dont, damned if you do. The good thing about the devs, dms and admins is that they do. They dont sit on their back being afraid of critisism.

The difference is that the Epic shop in Hell at the time was the sole place for purchasing better epic items. And that favored one alignment specificly that would have no issue going there. Even if bought from merchants, why would you give money to a trader who consorts with fiends on a daily basis for coin?

There is no difference. Its the same thing. Wherever the 1st epic shop was implemented some would complain. Whenever the 2nd epic shop was implemented, others would complain. Etc etc etc.

Visit any thread about epic shops. There is always someone to complain about something.

*Big head nod to Mrm3ntalist*

I personally never seen a DM call anyone out on pretending that the Hell Shop merchant was a Wizard under the affects of a special Polymorph spell so he could hide out there and help heroes who are coming by to destroy the hells!

Best disguise ever!
