Given where the temple is located, I could envisage a staircase leading down to a lower level which faces onto the "sea wall" of the Docks to allow sea water to flood in - unless the sea water appears magically?
Xorena wrote:Here is what Faiths and Pantheons says about the ceremony:
In the Drowning, a supplicant lies before an altar and is surrounded by candles lit to the deity, each placed with an intoned prayer by a different Umberlant cleric. The attending clergy then withdraw and release a wave of sea water to flood the room in a huge breaking wave an then flow away. Supplicants who survive are confirmed in the service of Umberlee and warned that if they should ever betray the Queen of the Deeps, drowning is the fate that await them.
This leaves a lot open to interpretation. So there is an altar. There is something that allows water to flood the room. But does the wave hit and immediately leave? Or does the wave stick around until the person drowns, who is then revived by Umberlee?

I have been roleplaying as though Perle actually drowned and was revived by her goddess. There's not a lot of clarity here.

Great news! Thank you.

Edited to add: don't forget the sign on the temple. There is a map icon as well.

Xorena wrote:Greetings,

Lore suggests that the Temple of Umberlee is named the Water Queen's House in Baldur's Gate. It is currently named the House of the Sea Queen.

Could we get a name change on the map?

Also, it's the smallest temple in the city, and given Baldur's Gate's status as a harbor town it should have more prominence, perhaps a private area for priests, or other nifty things? I'm happy to discuss suggestions.

I may be the only Umberlant priest on the server at this time so maybe that's a factor.

Editing to add: A drowning chamber for Untaken priests. It's in the lore.

Ok i'm currently working on this in the toolset to only change the Name(s) for this temple as I have to fix the walkmesh on one of the docs as well in the Harbor anyway. :)

Could I get a key to the tiny room too? Right now sneaks can pick the lock. That shouldn't happen.

As said before, can't remember who said in the thread, if you want to turn it into a somewhat type temple guild, you'll have to get approval from the DM's first. All the same guild rules and guild hall rules will apply. :)

*edit* I still do not know who did these changes to the area but the name was done when I looked today?

IIRC, the chapel area has a door that leads to a single cell. It may be locked? Anyway, I intended this to be some at/below water-level thing to be used by the faithful for whatever. It was never intended to be anything big. Anyway, it was one of the last to be changed and I ran out of ideas/steam ATM so it is what it is now. It would not surprise me if it has been this way for 4+ years.

As for meeting room, I suppose this same side-door could lead to ante-chamber with both go-down and go-up doors (2). The go-up would lead to meeting room that would be physically above the chapel. Keep in-mind the exterior building is small; hence inside is small too. Or add a door in the chapel on opposite wall to existing door with a go-up door.

Prior to temple re-workings, IIRC, Umberlee's was 3x3 open area with a statue in the middle and not much else. Bleh... To be fair, its origin probably predated release of Exp-pack that added water-themed PLCs.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing your insight and that bit of history.

I definitely am interested in expanding the temple, I just ned to figure out what the next step is. I like your idea off an antichamber above the main temple. A few of us Umberlants are discussing the second room as well.
