Built a ranger model with kama but ran into the same issues of low damage but ranger model has less defensive capabilities.
So how would one kill a mob with the m6/h4/ss20 build? Reserve feats? Summons?melee?

slowly....using expose weakness spam likely as your damage won't cut through DR.
Reserve feats and or spells and summons will also help. It is not a good melee build.
EDIT: As to a Ranger build, Monk Ranger can work, but you would want it to be STR based with DEX and WIS relatively low. For example R21/M9 Wood Elf with STR 18, DEX 16, WIS 14:
AC: 10 + 3 (Tumble) + 5 (DEX w/ Cats Grace) +4 (WIS w/ Owls WIS) + 1 (Monk 5) + 5 (Barkskin) + 12 (Deflection/Dodge/Armor) = 40. Additional AC can come from LoH, Protective Ward, TWD, Armor Skin, Shield Wand and/or IMA Wand potentially bringing up to 50.
AB: 27 (BAB) + 9 (25 STR, 28 w/ +3 item) + 4 (EB) + 1 (Epic Prowess) + 1 (Aid) - 2 (PTWF) = 40 which is a bit low when you aren't in natural area's. However, Expose Weakness will help. When needed potions of Greater Heroism is a good idea.
Main Hand Damage: 3.5 (Kama) + 9 (STR) + 4.5 (blades of fury) + 4 (EB) + 2 (Avernus Kama's) = ~23 (+5 + 2d6 = ~35 vs. FE's)
Off hand is ~18.5 / 30.5 vs. FE's
Damage is not good against non-FE's, but you do have Expose Weakness to help and should have a couple feats that you can spend for +1 AB / Damage from GR STR. In addition you'll have 15 APR using Flurry of Blows and Monk 9 takes no penalty for having FoB active. Due to the min/maxing of STR/DEX/WIS your probably going to have 9 CON, 10 INT and 8 CHA (haven't done the actual stat spread) so can't get IKD for example. It's viable, but certainly not a great build type. If I was going to go for a semi-unique PTWF Ranger build I would likely go Cleric 4 and make it an EDM TWF which still has problems with low CON/INT/DEX, but could likely still use Mithral Chain Mail with 14 DEX while meeting the requirements. EDM/Divine Shield with 12 APR would be pretty sweet offensively, but would probably have 10 INT and 9 CON on a wood elf so it could get 18 STR/14 DEX/14 WIS/16 CHA at level 1.
You could look at something like R22/M3/SB5 as Human and drop the STR build in favor of INT/DEX/WIS to go for Combat Insight for double INT to damage. Not sure how that would end up, but maybe I'll look in to it at some point.

i have tinkered around with a few concepts. i keep coming back to wanting to mix owls insight with wisdom ac bonus. phantom provides a similar perk and gives SA which with kama builds is basically a must have. problem is that without enough levels of phantom it is really just a handicap. i dont know of any PrC's that give AC for wis so im stuck with monk or phantom and monk get ++ because it gives kama. my premise should make a ~70 AC build with alot of stacking DR's for different damage types. but i do need to hit mobs and eventually kill them.

Can't have it all... If you make a high damage, high AB Fighter type it generally has sub optimal AC or poor saves. There are things you can do to mitigate these weaknesses, but often this is related to reducing your damage, for example dropping WM or FB in favor of a PRC that gives bonus AC and better saves.
By the same token, you need to give up something to get more damage. In case of Spirit Shaman Monk, your best bet is utilizing Shapechange so you get the AC and gain some offensive power. Trying to build a Kama Monk with high damage and no sneak attacks is essentially attempting to fit a square peg in a round hole. Pound all you want, it is never going to be a perfect fit.

I know what you mean. and this is why i am poking all of you. I'll miss stuff. i almost always do. thanks i will ponder. this ones spells should be able to do damage when my pet/summons (which new ones are coming so yay) are not cutting it.
ill make a build today to see what i can come up with.

Neat build but Rangers have to take nature gods I think..a fly in the clawed luthic warrior ointment.

This was changed because Forgotten Realms lore actually opens for rangers to follow any god. Only druids must choose nature gods.
