I mean, it looks terrible to have a 70 page rumor thread with 69 and a half pages of unusable RP/rumors.
Make the suggestion in the forum section of the suggestion boards. See what can be done.

So I love that archive idea aside from that and to the original post as a Devil's Advocate sorta. I understand the spamming of it is unfortunate, but I'm certain that single character is not going about laying the flyers etc about, most likely Courier's were "paid" to do it RP wise, if it wasn't posted in that area someone may go "Oh my char didn't see that since they are X area" (Which is possible but ik maybe rare?)

Basically it's like having your Town Criers in each area bearing the news. Also it's only on those topics you don't have to go into them.

Other than that I have been annoyed by the spam too and done it myself! So no stones here lmao

While I do agree that using the one post designed for such things is the better idea, calling it "metagaming" to do otherwise seems harsh and inaccurate. The Rumors and Events post says that folks have to state the locations of their notices, and several of the existing IC announcements also have been "placed" in the same large expanse of areas.

The only difference here is the usage of one post versus multiple ones, which I can understand might be troublesome to someone with spotty connection, but doesn't change the overall point.

The worse is there are bits of pieces of such a system but nothing fully functional, yet anyway. There's so much that can be done ..
I saw the beautiful stylized bulletin boards at the skullport. They were fully functional and active. Why don't you add those?

1. I have no idea what you're speaking about. Post screenshots or precise :)

2. Our bulletin boards work already.

3. It's about adding forum-posted rumors directly in game.

Rather than building a system that moves forum posts to Bulletin boards, why not simply make them more accessible, with maybe more spaces to post on, and more locations for them. Maybe a better filter system, to search by location, rather than needing multiple boards. So if I want to search for rumors around Baldur's, I simply type Baldurs for example into a text box.

It'd allow us to keep the universal system, but filter our results down by search, so we know what is and isn't relevant. Maybe also make it sort of like a mail-box system at the same time, by sending letters via name filtering?

From there it's just a matter of encouraging people to use the Bulletin board IG, if it's more accessible, it'd likely become the preferred Method fast. The bulletin boards have tons of potential, and are not used often- my guess is they're just very much 'out of the way'.

Given the choice between the in-game bulletin board, and getting on the forums, I'd be hard pressed to decide which is more annoying on occasion. But, I think I'd prefer the in-game boards simply because it's right there. Sadly, that's not entirely accurate though.

There are only two bulletins in the game apparently. Both are in the 'capital city' area, and nowhere else.

Doesn't most of the nonsense that occur happen in areas OTHER then the capital? Such as, I dunno, the Friendly Arm Inn? From a mechanical standpoint, why there would NOT be a bulletin board there is beyond me.

From an IC standpoint, the fact that there ISN'T one would be something I think Bentley would have corrected long ago.

Reported goblins <direction> from the FAI? Post it on the board. Someone sees the note, goes out, kills X goblins, brings back their ears/head. Bounty paid. Travelers are happy that the roads are safer, and thus, he gets more business.

Guilty of spamming.

Reason:

Post on event thread. Have PC go around ICly and mention upcoming event for two weeks prior to event.

Result:

What event? Oh, I don't read that section of the forums. Oh, I didn't hear that IC. Can you reschedule/have another?

It's a difficult thing. Things posted on the bulletin board are often unread too. Town criers would be wonderful, or even an IC newspaper you can buy from an NPC which lets you post such things, including "help wanted", "For sale or trade", or "Seeking employment". Not sure if that can be done but it would hopefully help alleviate the spamming.

If they didn't read one of the event threads though, it's unlikely they read any of them. I think it's likely a minority of the population that use the forum frequently, never mind for IC purposes. But yes, all those ideas are neat. If we clean up the IC forums though, along with making sure player planned events remain within the corrupt thread, it should only increase traffic.

Right now, it's a dang mess.

The primary problem there is that those people who claim they didn't see it? Will be the ones claiming they didn't see it even if you posted it on every single forum thread. And if they are interested in player hosted events then it would seem pretty darned logical they would be awfully happy to have a single thread to go to.

Honestly, you might only need one thread. Rumours of the sword coast, and be a bit more specific where you placed it. Otherwise use threads of specific locales. Personally though, I cull the bulletin board of our guild every so often, but keep logs posted elsewhere of them. Its an administrative effort.

I like the town crier idea, as well as a newsletter in game or something.

Pay x amount of gold per week, and your announcement is either run in the game newspaper (which you access via a magic gizmo) that shows the announcements that were paid for in that region, or that were paid to be shown in ANY region.

Same for town criers.

Really, anything that could be done along those lines would be agood gold sink to boot.

I've always considered Rumors of the Sword Coast as the umbrella thread for "things" related to the entire Sword Coast that is in-game.

Then, in addition, when some thing—rumor or event—that would ONLY be known in a particular local that a particular PC(s) would visit within reason, then utilize the appropriate "Rumors of ....."

I think we all need the Forum in order to set dates and times and just coordinate events, especially since BGTSCC is a 24-hour timezone Server. So casting the widest net does help.

But it also helps that Players consider the actual, in-character distances and possibilities of travel, in terms of likelihood and capabilities. Sure, it is easy mechanically to Teleport form top to bottom, multiple times in a gaming session, but in IC terms, would or could our characters go from BG to Nashkel to Darkhold to the Friendly Arm in 15 minutes (RL)?!?

It seems that the HDMs had made an attempt to separate Notices for Events from the Rumors threads, and I think that is a good idea (just simply not guided well enough from the outset). But that can easily change, if Players start to incorporate this subtle difference in their post(ing)s.

Event Notices / Advertisements here.

Rumors and Events (that have taken place) here.

How 'bout it?

They are using this (or something very similar) https://neverwintervault.org/project/nw ... etin-board
I have no idea why the server doesn't have this wonderful thing yet.
