Usual exp penalty but you can lose your level 30 sounds like a good idea, going under 29 wouldn't be possible though.

Exploits. No deleveling should be allowed.

Very nice ideas... but... All of them will not work fine as long as server crashes every few minutes.
Gold penalty seems good for all levels, not only 30 btw. Who told that your dead corpse can't be looted by someone?

Yes, because temporary levels needing some kind of cure is not something that can be dealt with by a solo player in the empty hours of the server. Killing a few monsters again is something that can always be done and is more interesting than, at worst, finding an NPC priest to cast greater restoration on you (something that would need being added).

LOL, how about instead of taking the XP hit from Myrkul you could choose for X hours per level to be a Ghost floating around, with 75% transparency, 100% concealment, and subject to Dispel Spirits by Spirit Shamans!!!

"Someone please...find my body and save my soul!"

And you could actually, IC and without metagaming, lead people to your body!

Um, we already have enemies that level drain on the server... how would temporary negative levels be any different?

Because I imagine they won't go away with a lesser restoration (or else that'd be a rather lame death penalty).

How can anything be less interesting than killing monsters? Even quests are less of a monotone slog.

Agree to disagree... nothing is worse then quest grinding. Dynamic cr, sub bosses and reactive spawns makes adventure/ grinding far more interesting.

Getting snubbed in "RP" for not making an effort to conform. Trying to fit in with those you already learned to dislike both OOC and IC.
This is entirely hypothetical of course.

Quests are worse anyway.

Is there a way to code in a temporary reduction in AB/AC/Saves/Skills/Feats/whatever else there is, at death? I played on a NWN1 server awhile back that had this. So, those grinders would not be able to do much for a certain amount of time after a death, thus they would do the only thing left in game for them, RP. Or log off. But, the server is open even for those who do not enjoy RPing. It might encourage people to hang out in the cities and towns and maybe even get more evolved in plots.

Though, I am not against the loss of gold in addition to the above.

It is "story" > "combat" > "quests".

The main appeal is story. While combat is okay, I absolutely hate quests. I have a dream that one day there will be an option to murder every quest giver in the most horrible way possible.
