But you can mark a rune inside the FAI and teleport there fully buffed

The idea evolved, it's not a dispel but a check on merchant's conversation. If you talk to him with visible buffs he will refuse to trade, I think it's still sensible if said merchant is in a civilized place such as the FAI or an orderly city. Roaringshore and Soubar should be excepted I think, anything else ?

I'd argue we should also reduce then the number of visible buffs.
Some buffs should never have had visible aspects.

Becoming a more active Forum user lately, I've noticed a trend that sometimes people join into a conversation simply by forum thread title, or by reading OP then replying, without understanding that an idea has evolved and changed.Valefort wrote:The idea evolved, it's not a dispel but a check on merchant's conversation. Back on topic, I think you are spot on with this.

In Roaringshore and Soubar, you could have some Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate skill check.Valefort wrote:The idea evolved, it's not a dispel but a check on merchant's conversation. I get some like them, some don't. I think it would be great to have the option to turn them on and off in the chracter details menu.Tsidkenu wrote:Ghostly VisageValefort wrote:More seriously keep the spells with visible bufffs coming guys

Merchant: I will not trade with the likes of you.Valefort wrote:Yep, any suggestions on those ?

Player Bluff DC 40: My appearance may be what it is, but let it slide this one time, because this is a chance for both of us to make great fortunes!
Player Intimidate DC 50: Have a look at me. Have a really good look at me. I want to trade, and you want to avoid unnecessary trouble with me. Do you understand me?
Merchant on skill check success: *Rolls eyes.* Fine... Just this ONE time...
Merchant on skill check failure: Get bent. I got no business to be done with the likes of you.

Not a bad suggestion, however I think that a law-abiding merchant would be difficult to intimidate regardless of threat due to being in the middle of a keep surrounded by guards within earshot and eyeview. Also, he would easily be seen conducting business with someone in visual buffs. This would be 'bad' for business.Sun Wukong wrote:Merchant: I will not trade with the likes of you.Valefort wrote:Yep, any suggestions on those ?

Also, the merchant has no clue if the person in front of him cast the buff inside or outside the walls, and should probably be safe by assuming 'hey, get rid of that' before trading.
Again, a merchant would probably want to be careful of magicians playing tricks on them, afterall they are there to make profit, not fall for magical tricks that alter a persons ability to haggle or be swindled by a buffed up bard.

Those were suggestions for Soubar and Roaringshore based merchants.

An option to stab the merchant would be nice.Valefort wrote:Yep, any suggestions on those ?
First, you need to hang bentley for cooperating with drow and getting one of the sshamath mythals.Steve wrote: Please!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please?
I'd rather not see this, because it is OOC that doesn't fit lore. Either place a tired wizard that casts dispells and can actually run out of them, or explain how the hell benlty could find this much magic to have infinitely dispelling barrier.

My char once had the idea of capturing a Beholder and strapping it to I can't remember what to use as defence from magical threats. Naturally, nobody supported their idea. Maybe Bentley did that?

I like this idea. A bunch of pissed off adventurers got tired of seeing the magic shinies running into Bentleys and came back with a Beholder they strapped to the wall to get this done. Bentley agreed to prevent magic users from trying to take advantage of the sales going on inside, and safety.Hoihe wrote:NegInfinity wrote:An option to stab the merchant would be nice.Valefort wrote:Yep, any suggestions on those ?

Re: Dispel Magic on Entering Friendly Arm Inn (crossing brid
The Lore that is available is in the OP, which says clearly that no magic and no melee is allowed within the FAI. That also implies quite strongly that no mage or cleric fully decked out like a nuclear christmas tree with a Planatar wielding a 2-handed sword would also be allowed in, and to interact with the merchants and NPCs therein.NegInfinity wrote: because it is OOC that doesn't fit lore.
As well, in my OP, I specifically suggested an NPC would demand a de-spelling of the mage/cleric, before being allowed entry (and it is possible to have the NPC auto-dispel your Toon, or, you could pre do it yourself).
Though I'm happy that something is being done about it á la Le Valefort, it still is going to be possible that some maniac will still show up within the FAI outer walls/courtyard, looking and acting like an arsehat, but since they're not interacting with the NPCs there, they just continue on.
I can live with baby steps in the right direction!
