I would disable it again.. it appears to be broken..
It turned my epic robe of blending into a light crossbow... Can a DM also fix my Robe when they get a minute?

What is this appearance changer? Is it like Maltz?

It's a purchaseable clicky from Blunt the basic merchant in farmlands (plus various other locations). Standard fare for all your item customization needs. At least when it wasn't borked.

It's like Maltz, except more detailed (and less user friendly). Instead of choosing between set appearances like in Maltz you first choose the for example model and can then edit the colour of it.
I still use Maltz for armour piece like shoulder pads and such is a complete hassle to edit one at a time

Let me clarify first because I haven't checked - Maltz is the same system found under the "start" menu button ingame?
The point of the appearance kit is, if you, like me, for instance don't want any armor pieces at all, you're almost out of luck with the premade ones in the other appearance changers. Then there's the color changing part, in the kit you can define the exact color for each item you wear (or at least attempt to because the base texture is in most cases already colored), and last but not least you can change the appearance of a full plate into a robe for RP or vanity reasons, or a leather into a hide armor etc. My characters have been walking around in 2nd grade armor for weeks now, with the good ones in storage because they can't be changed to my liking.

I realize it was a glitch, but having a crossbow like that would be pretty awesome. I'd rename it and RP it as a crossbow with a shield shaped like a giant mask.

I try not to complain but...
I have better gear for my character, but it looks ridiculous... Can't wear it... Can't alter it at Maltz... Sits in storage... I'm gonna cry. It's been that way for weeks now.
I am sure with the great team of volunteers that you have that you are trying everything you can. It's just really super frustrating.

Behind the scenes multiple GB backups are pulled and compared by with the current vault to determine a few bytes of changed data and catch / remove duplicates. Most have been courteous to come forward that a dupe has occurred on their accounts, but having to deal with the problem of a rather game breaking issue unfortunately takes precedence over non mechanical aesthetics.
We said it would be fixed shortly, and while we had a few band-aids put in place it appeared to either be a cause of or contributor to newer issues, things such as stack enumeration that is pretty straight forward in human understanding apparently creates problems in nwscript, or is outright unreliable in execution.. The appearance changer is one of the least reliable and more convoluted features in the BGTSCC module inherited by the xp_craft project.
Development's time is better spent on on a functional replacement that we have control of the code over from end to end unlike today where we don't have the source to the xp_craft.dll plugin in NWNX. We will introduce appearance changing to the module again when everything is vetted for, stable, and not subjected to the exploits seen today. Much of the logic regarding the newer features is removed from NWN2 altogether and doesn't even require NWNX at all.
I recognize that dress, or that tiara, or that earring is important to your character's aesthetics and to your roleplay, but not at the expense of the adverse effects that the feature currently causes to the module and the playerbase at large. If it were a small ordeal we would approach this differently.
I'm personally working on this replacement, of which part of it's mechanism of working is riding on the upcoming tiefling tail update tonight. If all of those functions pan out well, and it should, this will give us a lot less grief in the future, and more features to work on such as templating the layout of your armor than iterating sequentially, and more.
Please be patient, it'll be worth it in the end.
