ITT player discretion is advised. And always, always take screen shots. For black mail or other purposes. I've seen a few things...

Regarding harrasment, another favorite subject is thinly veiled political agenda. There were cases where political views regarding LGBT veiled as IC, while spreading OOC misinformation about lore.

Re: Harassment RP
The big question is, can a low charisma half-orc character still say the following line upon meeting a high charisma character: 'Hi, you look pretty.'Maecius wrote:There have recently been several reports of players subjecting other players to crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances. In each of these cases, the "roleplay" was more trollish in nature than it was character-based.
Or does it fall under the category of crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances? After all, a low charisma character can be seen as crude, while any comment regarding appearance can be understood to pertain an element related to the realm of sexuality, not to mention that not all role-playing activity with everyone is automatically desired for a multitude of reasons, and finally, the short string of words used as in character communication could be described as an adolescent advance due to the lack of linguistic complexity.
Therefore, is the "role-play" in the given example more trollish than in character based? I have to ask because this sounds like another vague rule that will be enforced solely by the whims of the dungeon masters and that depends on how they happen to personally view any involved player.
By the way, I have no idea what the original thread even contained.
I have no idea what exactly you are even trying to say here. But then again, I am not a political activist whose world view is grounded on the ridiculous premise that everything is political. But I do find it funny in the least.Hoihe wrote:Regarding harrasment, another favorite subject is thinly veiled political agenda. I mean, if a male character calls another male character a coward, is the male character just calling the other male character a coward, or is it a thinly veiled excuse for a political agenda in order to support the anti-marxist pro-capitalistic anti-postmodernist concept of what constitutes the acceptable parameters for toxic cis-gendered behaviour?
Calling someone a coward is just calling someone a coward.

Anyhow, I cannot wait to be perma-banned for having a character say: 'M'lady' - while tipping a fedora towards a random elven character.Aspect of Sorrow wrote:Zero tolerance.
But back to a more serious tone.
There is actually a very easy way to avoid a clear majority of the 'crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances' and that is to roll a male character. The uglier your character is, the less likely you are to recieve those 'crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances' - no one has ever approached my half-orc characters with a single whistle or a wink in all the years I have played here. While, playing an attractive looking, skin revealing character does actually garner far more of those 'crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances' - but even in that case those can be negated by dressing up like a sardine can that comes with arms and legs.
Oh, before the server had the now broken Appearance Kit, I did ask Maecius to port an .erf file with custom robe appearance. You would not believe how much I suffered from 'crude, sexual comments and unwanted, mostly adolescent advances' - I actually had to stop playing that character because of it. I just could not stomach the sexual harassment.
This was pretty much how that custom armor looked like:

I don't like where this is going, but let me assure you the original thread was not about snowflakes asking for safe spaces because somebody winked at them. It was about players having fun telling female characters to eat out their private parts in front of a crowd. The suggestion to only roll male characters anymore is a good one, I'm sure the server will be a better place.

Person A: 'Eat a (person)!'
Person B: 'Oh I would, but too bad you don't have one!'
Person A: 'You are such a faggot!'
Person B: 'What, are you trying to ask me out on a date?'
Edit:
If someone is rude, you just be rude back. It is called banter and it is the great equaliser in human relationships.

Re: Harassment RP
I think this is pretty cut and dry.. Druegar has managed to hit on multiple ladies of the realms while still being harmless and has below average intelligence. It boils down to explicit imagery.. if your describing a lude act in detail as opposed to "Pretty lady want to come home with Druegar?" There's a major difference. We're not horny 16 yr old virgins (I hope) so this should be pretty cut and dry.. why this is even an issue for a video game with graphics 10 years old is just sad. I mean, come on people..

Re: Harassment RP
The point being missed here is that it isn't a character being rude to another character, it's doing so in a manner that upsets a player on an OOC level and then refusing to stop when asked.

Re: Harassment RP
Suggesting that one has to roll a male character in order to avoid the rudeness and entitlement of a bully isn't the best way to address the underlying issue, I feel. The fault lies with the ones doing the harassing, and the people on the receiving end shouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility of mitigating that behavior by changing their own play styles or preferences.
A low charisma PC approaching my female character and telling her she's pretty isn't, of itself, harassment. Juno has received unsolicited compliments like this with positive, neutral, and negative reactions. But as a player, I didn't feel that she or myself was harassed. Why, do you ask?
- The PC didn't continually, after many times of my character asking them to stop, continue to compliment and get in her face about it.
- The conversation continued and it wasn't about my character's body parts or sexual attractiveness.
- If I let the other player know OOCly that I was uncomfortable with the interaction, they kindly acknowledged it and had their character walk away.
To follow someone around (in real life or in a game) exclusively to barrage them with compliments about their appearance and/or throw cheesy pick up lines at them (which is something that happened to me and a lot of other [mostly female] PCs) is not flirting. It is a forcible attempt to demand attention from that person, or to prompt laughs from by-standers at the expense of that person's dignity. To be objectified is dehumanizing, to say the least.
If someone asks you to stop something, you stop. If you're playing a villain and a major feature of their personality is lecherousness, there's a way to RP that while still being respectful of OOC feelings. When in doubt, ask if something is OK. We extend that courtesy to people we're about to PVP, so it shouldn't be that hard to manage.

Re: Harassment RP
I have always followed a simple method when I play the bad guy or villain.
Step 1.
OOC - Be lovely and nice, make sure everyone is okay and double check here and there if unsure. Make sure the person is
Step 2
IC - If followed step 1, be the bad guy you want to be, from step 1 they know it is only the "character" and not you.
Step 3 - Create rp and a story from it.
