As per usual, the handwriting on the pages looks incredibly rushed, yet is somehow still legible. The page has doodles covering it where there's no writing, none of them quite making sense.
A simple summary of events thus far:
Holton is here. He's being chased by an aboleth and that creature is about the only thing anyone seems to care about. There's a dragon of some sort watching me on Holton's behalf and this very dragon was taking a humanoid form and posed as the woman named Lyrin.
Lyrin mentioned that Holton is working on a means of attaining immortality without undeath, which is the sole reason she is tolerating taking orders from someone she likely sees as an ant. The meat that has been killing people is involved with this work somehow, though I'm still not entirely certain what information he may be gaining from all of this.
I've come to realize that the victims or supposed victims may have some similarities, though I'm still not certain about a lot of it. Most that I've seen or heard of have been rather drunk, very sick men who didn't entirely seem to know where they were. This... May just be me grasping at straws, and I could have been very wrong about the last encounter as he didn't have the reaction that had taken the others before him. A greater restorative casting and a strong healing casting seemed to sort him out, as Ashenie had suspected, but it's just as likely I encouraged a well-meaning, but still probably frowned upon assault of a drunk, homeless man.
The night we encountered this last victim, one of the cultists serving the aboleth mentioned apple pie. I thought this was some weird coding for the meat, but when the suspected victim mentioned having only eaten apple pie that day, I grew quite concerned. After our encounter in the woods and the man's possible ailment being cleared up, we took him to the Elfsong in town, where he said he'd ordered and eaten the pie. Another piece was ordered, and while the bar maid said it was very fresh, recently made, it... Did not have that appearance. I'd dismissed my concerns upon seeing the druid who had joined us had consumed it without consequence. I'm aware that druids have quite a strong resistance to poisons and the like, but this isn't a simple poison.
I've felt things have gone absolutely nowhere chasing after the aboleth, yet that seems to be the only concern for most who have gotten involved. I don't blame them in the slightest as it has taken over a whole village of people and there were comments from its followers that it might move into the Gate's harbor to make the search easier. That said, however, I've let the aboleth matter distract me from what I need to do for too long. I need to look in at the Elfsong again. Perhaps the bar maid out on the patio has information that could help me. Maybe the experiment isn't limited to meat. Maybe I'm onto something with my thoughts on the victims, or maybe I'm wrong.
There's more, and I'm not entirely certain what order to list what in or any of that, but-
- Aboleth looking for Holton
Holton is here looking for a means to attain immortality without undeath
Dragon working for Holton
I'm being watched by a dragon
Victims may have common ground, which may mean that they're not simply chosen at random, but a specific type may be being targeted
The strange meat may not be the only food to be concerned over
Last suspected victim did not die possibly due to the spells provided or he simply was just a drunk fellow.
Do not consume pie ordered at the Elfsong. Worst case its tainted by some deranged necromancer, best case it's still just foul looking.
Worst comes to absolute worst, I know I'm needed for something in Holton's research. No idea what, but... I did make it quite clear that I'd be more than willing to remove myself from his list of possible resources if it meant stopping him.
Hells, I'm tired. Almost positive there's more I'm forgetting to mention in this entry. Ah well.
