I always thought the point of the randomness on the boat was to prevent you from using it to quickly escape combat since that was a PVE map.
That boat's in a different place now right? Does it still have that random check?

The boat is currently in a rest area fairly far-removed from monster spawns. If someone wanted to evade monsters chasing them, they'd probably be better off transitioning into the nearby lighthouse or sea cave rest areas rather than entering any sort of fast-travel conversation. But yes, the boat still has the RNG response.

My understanding of both is that they're a result of misguided attempts to make the PCs "less special" and whatnot.
Especially the fact that the tripping hazard scales with your reflex save.
20 DC tripping hazard. How the hell does a commoner cross it?

Well, PCs are supposed to be special. That's why they're PCs.
It's kind of like how BG:TSCC players are special. A cut above. The tops. That's right ...

I remember those rails...Ameris used to trip over them all the time! And snarl angrily that the blacksmith responsible must be in the pay of the Zhentarim. It was one of the few times the inner man-child that Telia had to contend with daily came to the surface for the general public, to occasional surprise!
The increasing DC actually made it harder for him to pass the roll at higher levels

Nope. Don't run, don't trip. You might even have time to read what someone else types.

Every good DM scales challenge to the player.

By taking a natural 20, in otherwords spending enough time. You know, by not rushing through like a buffed up steam engine of doom!
Plus, it is funny.

Every good DM is consistent and doesn't make a voyage from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep take a 50+ roll of Knowledge: Geography.
Otherwise, trade would grind to a halt as no NPC would ever pass that.

I always found the tripping funny, maybe because my characters are pretty much immune to it. But just yesterday I said to someone I wish those tripping triggers were all over BG, pretty much wherever there is cobblestone, because lately I find it extremely annoying to have my characters constantly bumped out of the way by all the city runners.
I mean, everyone runs sometimes when they're not watched, of course I'm not a RP nazi and do it too, but I guess most of us stop when someone is showing up, and certainly don't run right through a group of roleplayers and bump them into all directions. I wish there was a feat for those occasions...

We'll want to try to introduce some sort of crafting at some point before 2020, in keeping with the server's strategic plan. A crafter doesn't need to be able to outshine the epic shops or anything, just produce interesting items with some level of customization.
I wonder if Maecius will quit, just like all the other Players, who were disappointed with their pipe dream!

Hmmm....

I think he's been rather busy with working... Not saying he didn't also lose the itch or whatever, only that I know he's made a couple posts where he had to travel/would be unavailable or less available so I assumed he just had a lot going on IRL.

I think the question is ... can the server handle more half-orc nerd-lord ... ?
If so, I suppose I can try to blow the dust off him.

To truly understand the server as it is today you really have to play 1-30 Mac...
