Best. Day. Ever. Even though I almost died. Twice.

Okay first off, I can keep my animals around longer now. So I think I am getting better at this magic thing. I also met a nice old lady with a magical ball of light for a pet! Her name is Mrs. Smith. I really got to get her to show me how to get one of those balls of light.

Then later, I helped Sir Xiaven and a bunch of other people clear out a big mansion. Some of those other people were interesting. There was a really pretty lady who cussed a lot (I'll get back to her, but her name is Flora). And another lady named Zul who was really interested in money (really, who can blame her?) I thought my protective magic would keep me safe, since I've gotten better at it. But I ended up going down. Stupid stirges. So that was the first time I almost died.

Then later, I went into these ruins filled with kobolds. I got swarmed, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up and Flora was telling me how I'm an idiot. So that was the second time I almost died.

Then a bunch of us went to a tavern at Ulgoth's Beard (the Bearded Mermaid, I think?) And that is when the night got interesting amazing. Long story short, Flora is the most wonderful woman I have ever met. I can't wait to see her again.

Figured out how to improve the magical armor, and learned how to throw fireballs. But I tried a fireball on a bunch of goblins, and it kind of just made them angrier. Mrs. Smith and her ball of light were there to save the day, though. For an old lady, she sure can use her staff well (although she did say it was mostly magic).

Guess I still have a long way to go before I'll be like those wizards in Ma's stories.

Flora makes me so confused sometimes.

BUT! On the plus side, Sir Xiaven helped me get to Candlekeep! It's the most beautiful place in the world. I never thought any place could be like this.

We met a pretty lady named Alexandra, and she said it's possible for me to be a scholar here. Like, ACTUALLY LIVE HERE. She even gave me a tour of the whole place. And it turns out Mrs. Smith is already living here!

Also, Miss Alexandra can send messages into your mind. So cool. I need to learn that spell. She also paid for my stay at the Candlekeep Inn, which was one of the nicest things ever.

Speaking of learning spells, I figured out a few more pages in the old man's big spellbook. The stuff in here is pretty crazy. For example: guess who has two thumbs and can TURN INTO ANYTHING HE WANTS (even something with no thumbs)?? That's right, this guy. Magic is so great, I swear.

Huge day today. I became an ACOLYTE OF CANDLEKEEP!!! Leaving the Docks was the best thing I ever did. The library here is so amazing. I got to see inside, like the real library, and there are SO many books.

Then Mister Dirin gave me a ring that helps my mind focus better, so now I can figure out magic more efficiently.

So with the BEST LIBRARY EVER to study in, and Mister Dirin's magical ring, I have been making pretty good progress with the old man's spellbook. And I have found out a few things:

  • The old man can summon animals too. Like the scroll I found the day I left the city, except stronger. A lot stronger.

I also figured out the pages he used to make zombies. I'm pretty sure it's what he used on Jenny. I want to tear out these pages and burn them, but I also want to figure out if there's a way to reverse the whole zombie thing. So I guess I better keep the pages. For now.

There are also a few other spells in here that are not very nice at all. I mean, why would you want to make someone's flesh shrivel up? Or wrack someone with blistering pain? The old man is crazy. I mean, just totally nuts.

Oh yeah, and Mrs. Smith thinks maybe I shouldn't be around Flora. Maybe she's right. I don't know.

Living at Candlekeep is going to take a lot of getting used to. I got a lot of chores and people give me a lot of reading to do. People here are also really quiet and serious. For example, Reader Jvianin is the same age as me, but she's really no-nonsense. Plus, she's a lot smarter than me and knows a lot of things.

But it's totally worth it. I'm getting better at this magic thing pretty quickly. There is so much information here, it's like a dream.

I showed Flora Candlekeep, too. She said it's "A place worthy of you." That made me feel really good. I really like being with her.

Candlekeep is going to take a LOT more getting used to than I thought. The guards yell at you over nothing. But I decided that studying here is so great, it's worth it.

I showed Mister Dirin and Miss Zul Candlekeep today. Miss Alexandra gave them (and a bunch of other people) the big tour. Then Reader Jvianin showed some of us the observatory. The view from up there is amazing.

Saw Flora again today. I think maybe her life has been as rough as mine, maybe even more. I tried to help a bit; I hope she feels better.

I had a flash of inspiration today. Remember how I've been trying to reverse the whole zombie thing? Well, I think I am getting closer. I've at least figured out how to destroy the magic that holds together the undead.

So I am glad I held onto the zombie-making spell. Now I think Candlekeep is right - all knowledge is valuable. At first I thought they were a little nuts for protecting even information about necromancy. But I couldn't have figured out the undead-destroying magic without referencing the old man's zombie-making spell.

I've been studying how the wizards here cast magic. They've really figured out a lot of efficient ways to make their spells more powerful. I still can't believe I get to learn magic at Candlekeep. I don't think I'd know nearly as much without being here.

Flora said she loves me.

I feel like Flora and I got closer today. Reader Jvianin said I should be more reserved because she thinks knowing someone for tendays isn't that long or whatever. But Reader Jvianin is just the overly cautious type, I think. Flora and I love each other, so everything will work out!

Oh, I figured out more pages in the old man's spellbook. He's seriously a twisted nut. Why would he want to make a bunch of people confused and fight each other? Or throw FIVE spheres of energy at someone? Or disintegrate someone into a pile of ashes? Or INSTANTLY KILL EVERYONE AROUND YOU?

I think he's really into finding novel ways of destroying people. Serious nutjob.

Things are moving really fast with Flora. I can't say I mind. She's the best thing to ever happen to me.

Oh, drow are crazy scary. I was in troll form and couldn't land a scratch on this one drow! Plus her magic blasts blew up my dog. If she'd been aiming at me, I would've been killed instantly. Luckily this group of people called the Northern Watch saved my rear.

Oh, I figured out more of the old man's spellbook. Turns out there is a spell in here that literally lets you point at something and kill it. The old man was a sicko. But maybe I should keep this spell handy, in case I run into that drow again. I'm sure it'll work!

Flora is so wonderful and brave, I love her. I can't believe she loves me too.

One of the Great Readers has a little dragon for a familiar, which is awesome. The Great Reader also told me about a spell called Fly. Which apparently does exactly what its name suggests. I am in the library right now looking for it.

This is going to be so awesome.

Figured out even more of the old man's spellbook. And I thought this guy was just nuts, but he's also WAY more powerful than I knew. I mean, raising a small undead army? Wilting everything around you by sucking out all the moisture?

I think I may be out of my league here.

Oh, and Archivist Jvianin really chewed me out the other day. I guess I deserved it, but man. I'm not used to all this supervision. I'm used to running around on my own schedule.

I thought a spell that sucked out moisture from everything around you was bad enough. But a spell that violently purges blood and vital fluids from someone?? What kind of sicko IS this guy??

I haven't even been touching the old man's sick spells. Instead, I've been using fire to defend myself. Fleshboiler is particularly effective. I hope he knows how much I appreciate his help. Also helps that I can protect myself from fire.

If I get a home with Flora, am I still allowed to be part of Candlekeep? Hm.

Okay, so just when I thought the old man couldn't top his insanity, it turns out he has a spell in here that lets you kill EVERYTHING AROUND YOU with a horrendous wail. What in the Nines.

ALSO, finally got myself a familiar, and he is the most powerful rat on the Sword Coast. Not joking at all.

P.S. Protector Aesa punches HARD.
