Re: New Races
They would still be a KOS race, most the other races would view them as a threat and i doubt the dukes would allow them in to the city at all.
Also we have enough trouble with people playing drow and the Underdark in general, do we really need another "evil" race of snake people causing all kinds of drama on the surface?

Re: New Races
I mean. I've never actually seen Drow cause trouble on any of my good characters. It was always Bhaalites and other evil versions of the normal surface races.Wolfrayne wrote:They would still be a KOS race, most the other races would view them as a threat and i doubt the dukes would allow them in to the city at all.

In fact Yuan Ti Purebloods are LESS likely to cause trouble and drama because they're infiltrators. Not bloody conquerers. Sure, you might find that the snakemen are selling your secrets. But you're not likely to find the snakemen burning down a village.

I disagree we have a problem with any of that.Wolfrayne wrote: Also we have enough trouble with people playing drow and the Underdark in general,
No comment on the races.

Re: New Races
Let me rephrase that a little. The Problems we have are with people not entirely understanding a race and how it is meant to be played is the problem.
With relation to the drow..
People forget things like Sshamath is not Menzoberranzan and isnt governed the same way, They dont understand the the proper hierarchy and ecosystem, which to some extent is fine.
I tell you now if you make Yuan-ti available as a race they will be EVERYWHERE. And there will be so many "im not evil just misunderstood" or other snowflakey characters around. And the drama that will follow due to someone "outing" a snake person will be ridiculous, Metagaming claims etc. Sorry but i do not personally think that there is any reason to add them as a race.
people get overly grouchy about being "outed as a drow" etc and there are a few people in this community who would abuse the hell out of the yuan-ti.

As I said, I will not discuss the Yuan-Ti.Wolfrayne wrote:Let me rephrase that a little. The Problems we have are with people not entirely understanding a race and how it is meant to be played is the problem.

But what you say of the Drow is not a Drow problem. It is RP culture and knowledge, and it's valid for all classes and races. We should educate new (to the race/class) players as we make it fun for them, encouraging them to play, rather than stigmatize a random race.
Over the years, I have seen horrible Red Wizards, horrible Shadow Adepts, horrible Elves, horrible Aasimars, horrible Tieflings, horrible Orcs, horrible Paladins, horrible Druids, horrible Warlocks, horrible Clerics...Basically everything can be played absolutely terribly, without setting knowledge and prior preparation/research.
Talking about the Drow in those terms makes it look like a problem of the race, when in fact it's just a feature: RP has a steep learning curve.
Some "horrible" characters either become much better when the player behind them learns, or are abandoned in favor of better concepts. Every experienced RPer should help those players through the process (like someone else likely did for them), rather than calling a race that has seen fantastic RP over the years, and it still does, a "problem".

Re: New Races
That isn't a problem with the race. That is the problem with a kind of player (the drama problem) and it will happen regardless of if Yuan-Ti is in the picture or not. There are many other ways to achieve the same result.Wolfrayne wrote:Let me rephrase that a little. That kind of person will find an excuse to do it, regardless of if the race is in or not. Decisions shouldn't be made out of that kind of fear, because we'd never end up adding anything if that was the case. Anything and everything can be exploited in some way.
So what if people make drama over IC consequences? You can ignore them. That is simply a skill one needs to learn to successfully RP and be happy in a PW environment. People in general don't like "losing", that is just the nature of any game. Doesn't mean you have to listen to them when they whine about it.

Re: New Races
Let's try and keep this on the topic at hand.
What races That fit Lore wise would you introduce?
Would more variants of current races be better then adding completely new races?
